What's cooking today?

We generally have a gathering of around 40 to 50 people. We have cooked everything from turkeys to shrimp along with the obligated hamburgers and hot dogs. Smores always. Tonight our menu will include slow smoked brisket and chicken. And hot dogs. Salads/cassuroles/baked beans/ fruits. Nobody will go hungry. As I write, the smell of hickory is wafting through the kitchen window from the deck. It has stopped raining so it is time to put out the flags. What's cookin at your house today?

After I asked you what you were cooking in my blog on political songs, I thought about writing one similar to this. Am glad you have done so!

I bought a lemon cheesecake at the Farmer's Market this morning along with two pints of fresh blackberries, a dozen ear of corn, an eggplant, cabbage, yellow potatoes, etc., etc., So I know we'll be having blackberries over lemon cheesecake for dessert and some BBQ ribs. Potato salad and cole slaw are in the refrig....and I can hardly wait to bite into that fresh corn...and fresh tomatoes!

Yum, sounds good autie, Ronda and Kat. I'm letting my daughter and son-in-law plan the menu, I'm bringing the margaritas. Cheers!

Sounds great autie! We'll be going to the youngins' place up by Lake Shawnee, grillin' steaks, brats and burgers over hickory and doin' the covered dish thing! Kat and Alia, corn on the cob and margaritas sound good too! I might even suggest that to Mrs Roe!

Fresh tomatoes, Ronda witha R? Can I hate you for just a few days, mine should be ripening by Tuesday or Wednesday!

I am blanching at the thought of Ret blanching...yuck!

Roe and autie, I wish my corn was fresh from my own garden, but I feel fortunate that I can get them as fresh as "picked" today from the area farmer's field. $5.00 a dozen and they could be eaten with no blanching.......

First year I can remember I didn't plant my own tomatoes either....and I thought life got easier as the children grew...who told me that lie (no mention of a political party please)....

I just got done working (dragging cedar branches from backyard around to front yard) at my grandma's house and we had some hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and coleslaw. It was good. I am getting ready for my second shower of the day and then off to work the Kid Rock/Lynryd Skynryd concert. Everything all of you are preparing sounds pretty darn good!

Hubby is making homemade ice cream and chocolate zucchini cake. Got some fresh corn from the market this morning to put on the grill with hamburgers tonight. THAT's a perfect meal! www.whatupduck.com

Yes, considering how much zucchini we all have sitting around in our refrigerators. I can only grill so much!

and I am being slowly roasted in my Palin blog...that is really what is cooking in my end of the world.

Smokin' a load of ribs. The smoker (formerly was a potato baking oven which I salvaged & converted) is at 270. Looks good. Autie, I'm using green hickory. Do you prefer green or seasoned? Happy 4th to all...

ret, so sorry to hear about your 0 ring...thankfully mine is still in perfect condition......

We just got done shooting (at) 8 cases of bluerock. Headache. The ladies have arrived and the ribs are looking great for ~6pm pull-off. Application of BOBO rule is on: boots off, beers open. Somebody brought a sheet of deviled eggs half an acre across: now that's the way to do it! Agree on the green hickory: nothing beats it. I just walk through a friend's timber and whack off a low-hanging limb.

You know, those of you who are fortunate enough to have gardens and extra produce might think of bringing over to Vermont Tower to the common room. We could sure use it. Thanks!
