The Doldrums Are Upon Us: Correction - The Old Drums

It's Tuesday, but it may as well be Monday. It was hard to start back into the swing of the work week after having a relaxing and fun three day weekend. I hope you all had a great break as well.

I'm feeling the doldrums of the beginnings of a hot and humid summer in good ole Kansas. Not that I mind - my thoughts had been up until about a week ago - "Will Summer Never Come".

I can think of a way to get in good spirits, wake up and enjoy the day. Let's play a musical blog of our favorite drum solos. It doesn't have to be only drumming - just that somewhere in your song there needs to be a drum solo.

Please post one link per comment and do share the performer, song title and any personal experiences you may have experienced with a favorite drummer or his/her performance.

Let's get out the old drum songs...and get out of the doldrums.

Great start, thanks to both of you. I will enjoy listening to them. I'm sitting outside enjoying nature booming some cymbals in the background. Nice combo! :)

Beat the drum slowly and play the fife lowly, And play the dead march as you carry me along; Take me to the valley, and lay the sod o'er me, For I'm a young cowboy and I know I've done wrong.

Streets of Laredo - traditional

We banged the drum slowly And played the fife lowly You know the song in my heart In the turning of twilight In the shadows of moonlight You can show me a new place to start

Bob Dylan - Where Teardrops Fall

Really, is it true no one has posted this?

In A Gadda Da Vida - Iron Butterfly - wonderful song, lyrics, music...

"In The Garden Of Eden" (Doping heavily when recorded)

fun fact!

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

That is interesting. Great movie too. Did you see it? Watching that video made me want to watch the flick again

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 7 months ago

Ronda, without going through the thread first, I seconded and thirded this one, and guess what? Every one of the three is a different group, slightly different, and looks like a different decade!

We're showing our age!

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

I'm afraid when it comes to music, I've been showing my age for a long time. Wait! My daughter and son love the same music. We're safe, Ron. Now Linda Hanney and Mr Gage - that's a whole different story. We'll see if they find me here. :)

schula 4 years, 7 months ago

I have been out to lunch otherwise would have posted it, Ronda!

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

:(. And I've been searching all night for that answer.

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

Santana has always been a class act. Sometimes I've felt they've been underplayed and appreciated. But then I guess fans of any band probably feel that way. So many great ones.

I am not snapping on an answer to your question, but it lingers somewhere in those hazy memories. I'll bet there are many who'll answer it before it comes to my mind. Like Camper! :)

schula, I'm on a lunch break continuously it seems! Glad you made it back.

I made a w wheat biscuit crust pizza with feta, garlic, spinach, goat cheese and tomato paste. Nice lunch and so healthy.

schula 4 years, 7 months ago

Ronda -- that sounds pretty good. I had chicken soft tacos from Taco John's.

I bet Camper will find the answer later.

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

Good choice. Drum roll please.

I've been buying corn tostado shells, scatter rinsed black beans or chick peas on them, sprinkle some cheese on board, zap in the microwave for thirty seconds, add some salad complete with avocados on top - few blasts of hot sauce and a hearty, healthy meal awaits. Quite fast, inexpensive, nutritious and very healthy. You could add chicken chunks, tuna, left over burger or meatloaf, roast beef, pork. Anything. And just melted cheese with hot sauce is a nice snack.

All these other guys are cheating. They can see.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Stevie Wonder.....

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

Thanks, Dis. I'd never seen that one of Stevie before. It was absolutely incredible. I had no idea. That's taking drumming to a whole different level!

Dispersant 4 years, 7 months ago

I just can't help myself, this is the coolest thread I've seen on LJWorld. I promise this is my last one. (For a while anyway).

12 year old, Tony Royster Jr.......

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

Disper, don't stop the music. You aren't limited as to how many favorites you can post. Bang away by all means. I love your choices. I love Stevie! Makes you Wonder.

where's Agno? Blog per suggestion........

I'm always up for Collins. Have you seen live, Deja?

Autie, Grand Funk is good. I'd bet Iron Butterfly would fly away with the most votes if put to the test? :)

dog days he says - that we'll save

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

I agree, I was surprised as well. Goes to show how many incredible drummers out there.

Buddy Rich: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCcZYBJ3mNo&feature=related

Played the drums like Aryton Senna drove F1.

Keith Moon could've been this good over time but he had too many bad habits.

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

Keith Moon and bad habits! The man certainly seems to have many chances and waaay more than 9 lives. He's one cool cat, however!

Ronda Miller 4 years, 6 months ago

Omg, I was saying moon and thinking Richards with the nine lives. Yep, moon died way too young. I remember well how much it affected so many of the musicians of the time. Was it said he'd drowned initially? Wow, I'd forgotten all that. Too bad so many followed in his footsteps.

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 7 months ago

Dream Theatre! Here's a true drum solo that's amazing, I found it on Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjx3US...

riverdrifter 4 years, 7 months ago

So, that's like a conflicted plumber/electrican on LSD?

Wheew!

Linda Hanney 4 years, 7 months ago

Really showing my age here. I can't believe no one has mentioned Sandy Nelson yet.

Ron Holzwarth 4 years, 7 months ago

Nice! I liked that! And he also did a version of Wipeout! This is the 4th version of Wipeout! posted on this thread so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoM2bv...

Ronda Miller 4 years, 7 months ago

We need every version of Wipe Out ever done - wait a minute, maybe not. I'd lapsed in my thought process of how many people put things up.

Good one, Linda!

Hillstomp - Cardiac Arrest in D

Not exactly a solo, but the drummer is half the act, and plays on plastic 5 gallon buckets and various other pieces such as a brake drum etc., and boy does he get into it.

lonelane_1 4 years, 6 months ago

Just want to thank Tom for posting Buddy Miles. One of my all time favorite drummers, too. Awesome.

Ronda Miller 4 years, 6 months ago

Sorry, lonelane_1, I couldn't find Buddy Miles' "The Way I Feel Tonight" either. It may be coming still!

Okay, we're all wanting to know if Tom is wearing Monica Lewinsky pink lipstick......

schula 4 years, 6 months ago

Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to stop in and let you have the afternoon off beginning at noon! Have a great weekend!

Ronda Miller 4 years, 6 months ago

Thanks, Schula. I hope you have a great weekend. I'm using the afternoon to post a blog and get some housecleaning done - early start on all those projects!

Hazel Ripstra 4 years, 6 months ago

Futureman (Roy Wooten) and his drumitar, of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones deserves some mention, and it's Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzman of the Grateful Dead.

Ronda Miller 4 years, 6 months ago

Thanks, Jack

sounds as though you know and appreciate your drummers.
