Song Titles and Lyrics: Home Is Where The Heart Is
It's your pad, cell, house, igloo, tent, apartment, trailer, hut, tepee, condo, cottage, rental, vacation spot, White House, or out house ......it's your home!
As most of us have realized by now, home is where your heart is. People from every culture have them. They are our safe haven from a cold and brutal exterior world, or they can be a place to retreat from an inferno or dust storm. Whatever the outside conditions may be, we all need a place to call our own. It doesn't have to be a large space as long as it is our space.
This week's song title game was suggested by Honeychild. Think of a song that mentions anything about "home" (see above list) in the title or lyrics of your song. Perhaps a specific song that makes you think of home, or long for it.
Please supply a link to your favorite performer/performance and a few lines of lyric inclusive of your mention of home.
Have fun! Don't get too 'home' sick! Please remember to post one song per comment to allow fairness and equality to our game. Thanks.

Good morning multi, and cool. I was beginning to think this might be the shortest of my song title games.
Cool, I can't believe that didn't immediately pop into my head as I am a Roger Miller fan and love that song.
Multi, I had already played CSNY, but that is okay. Great song. I wasn't familiar with some of the other tunes. Thanks.

George Strait & Patty Loveless
“House of Cash”
Well the House Of Cash just burned down
All the way to the cold hard ground
The doctors came from all over town
To see the memories scattered all around
Then the stars came out by the light of day
And they heard their old friend passed away
That yard looked like a funeral hall
Without the pies and casseroles
[Chorus: ]
Well, it's goodbye Johnny, goodbye June
Goodbye fancy living room
Well no one sleeps in Cash's bed [ House Of Cash lyrics from http://www.lyricsyoulove.com/ ]
Except the man in black and the woman he wed
And the ring of fire comes full circle
And the ring of fire comes all the way around
And if those ashes in the pool could talk
To the anchor man out on the walk
I'd bet they'd be happy to announce
There'll be no yard sale now
[Chorus]
And the ring of fire comes full circle
And the ring of fire comes all the way around

George Strait — “House With No Doors”
I was there in my trailer,
Down at the job site
The day that this stranger walked in
His face looked so sad, and he carried a set of blueprints
And as I unrolled them, the first thing I noticed
Was there were no doors in the plans
He said if you build this for me
Then when she comes back
She’ll never be able to leave me again
I said if I did
And she ever came back
Friend, tell me how would she get in
It would just be a prison that I locked you in
If you couldn’t leave
You’d never know if there was someone to love you
The way that she didn’t before
There’s two things that I know for sure
It’s that you can’t make a women feel something she don’t
And you can’t build a house with no doors
O’while he was quiet, I could tell he was thinking
I thought I just ruined his day
I just couldn’t bear to see this man’s last hope slip away
So I thought real fast, and I started talking
Said Buddy we tried this before,
And if there ain’t one, she’ll make one
Either way she’ll run
And leave you a house with a hole for a door
I said if I did
And she ever came back
Friend, tell me how would she get in
It would just be a prison that I locked you in
If you couldn’t leave
You’d never know if there was someone to love you
The way that she didn’t before
If there’s two things that I know for sure
It’s that you can’t make a women feel something she don’t
And you can’t build a house with no doors
No, you can’t make a women feel something she don’t
And you can’t build a house with no doors’

The sun comes in this window right at my eyes through the slots in the blinds, and it's kind of hard to see the screen this time of day. I'm squinty for about an hour for a few days as the earth rotates. I move my head back and forth to get around it, lol. Right eye is sun spot blind, left eye, not so bad. Cat thinks I've lost my mind. Not far off.
Good thing I'm not driving. hehehe.

My house:
“Rottweiler Blues”
Written by Warren Zevon and Carl Hiaasen
1995 Zevon Music BMI
Fair use.
Got a Glock in the bedside table
Machine gun leaning by the bedroom door
Kevlar vest in the closet
Well, I wear it when I go to the store
Shadows on the window
Rustling in the hedge
Faces at the peephole
Footsteps on the ledge
If you come calling
He'll be mauling with intent to maim
Don't knock on my door
If you don't know my Rottweiler's name
Halogen lights in the driveway
Guardian Angels living next door
One hundred pounds of unfriendly persuasion
Sleeping on the Florida porch
Slackers in the market
Bangers in the mall
Skinheads on the golf course
Hunting for their balls
If you come calling
He'll be mauling with intent to maim
Don't knock on my door
If you don't know my Rottweiler's name
Well, he's dreaming about an intruder or two
And the promise of burglar blood
He's yearning to chew on a gangster tattoo
And to hear the proverbial sickening thud
Shadows on the window
Rustling in the hedge
Faces at the peephole
Footsteps on the ledge
If you come calling
He'll be mauling with intent to maim
Don't knock on my door
If you don't know my Rottweiler's name

Home to myself, Melissa Manchester.
My heart and home is not Lawrence, and it becomes less so daily.
From a crooked local paper, to the massive control of local government on our massively diminished individual rights, to the local college that is one HUGE consumption monger which damages surrounding homes and property and moves a hill, to a strange and highly ineffective Chamber of Commerce, to a huge lack of kind and generous customer service orientation on Mass Street. Nothing looks good here anymore. A flood is due. Hold on to your hats.

George Strait “If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger”
Lately you've been showin' all the signs
Of a woman with someone else on her mind
It's not your fault
Some nights i've left you alone
And if you're thinking you want a stranger
There's one coming home
Chorus:
If you're thinking you want a stranger
I'll soon be there
You're gonna see a change in me
This time i swear
No more late nights
Comin' in at daylight
And no more doin' you wrong
And if you're thinking you want a stranger
There's one coming home
Bought you a silk gown and perfume today
Picked up some roses and champagne on the way
Oh i called to ask you to put some soft music on
Cause if you're thinking you want a stranger
There's one coming home
Chorus
If you're thinking you want a stranger
There's one coming home

George Strait “Give It Away”
She was stormin' through the house that day,
An' I could tell she was leavin'.
An' I thought: “Aw, she'll be back,”
Till she turned around an' pointed at the wall an said:
“That picture from our honeymoon,
“That night in Frisco Bay:
“Just give it away.”
She said: “Give it away.”
“An' that big four-poster king-size bed,
“Where so much love was made:
“Just give it away.”
She said: “Just give it away.”
“Just give it away.
“There ain't nothin' in this house worth fightin' over.
“Oh, an' we're both tired of fightin' anyway,
“So just give it away.”
So I tried to move on,
But I found that each woman I held,
Just reminded me of that day.
Hmmm.
When that front door swung wide open,
She flung her diamond ring:
Said: “Give it away.”
“Just give it away.”
An' I said: “Now, honey, don't you even want,
“Your half of everything.”
She said: “Give it away.”
Just give it away.
Just give it away.
There ain't nothin' in this house worth fightin' over.
Oh, an' we're both tired of fightin' anyway,
So just give it away.
So I'm still right here where she left me,
Along with all the other things,
She don't care about anymore.
Mmmm.
Like that picture from our honeymoon,
That night in Frisco Bay:
She said: “Give it away.”
Well, I can't give it away.
An' that big four-poster king-size bed,
Where all our love was made:
She said: “Give it away.”
Well, I can't give it away.
I've got a furnished house, a diamond ring,
An' a lonely broken heart,
Full of love,
An' I can't even give it away.

Machiavelli_mania, When we moved into our house in '75 the neighbors had just recently moved in also. They (she) had been miserable in their previous home and were thrilled to be somewhere new. Within months they (she) was miserable here, and for the next 30 years complained about where they lived. After receiving a very nice inheritance, they purchased a very expensive, very beautiful “dream home” in the city of their (her) preference. I recently was told they (she) is miserable and wants to sell and move elsewhere.
Take a look around… Is Lawrence really that bad, or is it just you
I have said for years, “Lawrence is the little town you love to hate”. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

ronda, this may sound a tad corny but in all seriousness, isn't what you said simply elaborating on the title of this thread? home truly IS where the heart is. if you are not content w/ yourself, your surroundings will never be much more than a backdrop for your unhappiness and changing them will only be like putting different clothes on. you truly have to look w/in to find what exactly makes you happy and then use that as a jump-off point.
i used to hate salina. i grew up here and had the typical “as soon as i graduate— i'm outta here!” attitude. and you know what— i was out of there almost literally right after i graduated. and after 20 some odd years, along the way i've learned that there are alot worse places to be than salina, kansas. am i going to live here for the rest of my life? i dunno… but if i do, then so be it. there is so much i feel like i need to accomplish in life in order to feel complete and none of it has to do w/ changing locations.
so, mach, best of luck to you. i hope that wherever you are, whether its lawrence or not, you find happiness. it definitely can be elusive… in my opinion lawrence is a fantastic town but everyone has a different path.

Away, Away
Come away with me
Where the grass grows wild, where the winds blow free
Away, Away
Come away with me
And I'll build you a home in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On a world that the Lord must have helped design
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On that home we will build in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come. Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow

The House Song - Peter, Paul & Mary
This house goes on sale every Wednesday morning
And taken off the market in the afternoon
You can buy a piece of it if you want to
It's been good to me if it's been good for you
Take the grand look now the fire is burning
Is that your reflection on the wall?
I can show you this room and some others
If you came to see the house at all
Careful up the stairs, a few are missing
I haven't had the time to make repairs
First step is the hardest one to master
Last one I'm not really sure is there
This room here once had childish laughter
And I come back to hear it now and again
I can't say that I'm certain what you're after
But in this room, a part of you will remain
Second floor, the lady sleeps in waiting
Past the lantern, tiptoe in its glance
In the room the soft brown arms of shadow
This room the hardest one to pass
How much will you pay to live in the attic?
The shavings off your mind are the only rent
I left some would there if you thought you couldn't
Or if the shouldn't that you've bought has been spent
This house goes on sale every Wednesday morning
And taken off the market in the afternoon
You can buy a piece of it if you want to
It's been good for me if it's been good for you

Big, big house (Audio Adrenaline)
Shortly before Maria Chapman died at the age of 5 (traffic accident), she asked her mother if it was true that God had a big, big house. (She'd learned this song either in pre-school or Sunday school.) That lead to a talk about how God had made a way for her to join Him someday in His big house. So they've taken great comfort in that. In her memory, there is an orphanage called “Maria's Big House of Hope” (http://www.showhope.org/OrphanCare/Ma…)
Here's a link to the song. The second video is of a man doing the song in sign language.
