Will anyone ever get that Born in the USA is NOT a PRO-America song? It highlights all that is wrong with this country- and does a great job doing so.
“Born down in a dead mans town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog thats been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up.”
And anything Toby Keith sings makes me physically ill. I don't mind Martina's “Independence Day” though. Good tune.

America the Beautiful.
I think there are a whole bunch of verses, but I only know these. Oh yeah, and also “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie.
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

Yep, like so many other things - patriotism is in the heart and mind of the observer.
Here was one written by Glen Campbell:
God Must Have Blessed America
Circa 1977
Words and Music by Allen Toussant. Recorded by Glen Campbell
God must have blessed America
For us to have so many many things
We've got each and ev'ry kind
All gathered at one time
Say God must have blessed us all
Say Now,
We've got it all, we've got the good,
we've got the bad
And all the in betweens, we've got it all
We've got the rich, we've got the poor
And so much more
Yeah, we've got the muddy Mississippi running wild
And the prettiest women in the world
We've got the music sweeping through your mind
We've done so much in such a little time
We've got it all
We've got it all, yeah.

camper, great song choice as usual. Thanks for sharing it…the visuals were striking and fit nicely for the 4th! You seem to have a thing for that band, btw! ;)
tange, you don't need to fold…just celebrate your holiday on the moon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKqcVu…
Petey, your mention of Dixie Chicks is a good one..I don't believe anyone had named that one.
password, that was a sweet link. Watching little people at parades and singing songs like that can melt our hearts pretty quickly! thanks for that.
Nancyboy, “Have you ever tried chocolate milk with Smirnoff vanilla vodka? Try it right away!”
I would if I could….sounds like a terrific nightcap!

Since I dislike war so much, and since is to tough to respect our involvement in such, I do admit I do not know enough about WWII to speak with authority. But since that kind of knowledge is not required to be able to post here, I will continue to show my ignorance. While I know some about alot of stuff, a lot about a bit of stuff, I do not expect myself to know everything.
I am under the impression that we used both A and H on Japan. If you can provide a link as to what we really used, and if I find the source to be worthy of attention, then I will adjust my knowledge base.
I am not a know-it-all. Are you?”
Marion writes:
I offer a mildly in-depth analysis of the above post:
Maciavelli_mania essentially wrote:
“Although I have no discernable knowledge of history and in typical uneducated Pseudo-liberal/Neo-socialist fashion, I will make all sorts of wild, inaccurate and unfounded claims in order to promote my hatred of the United States of America.
I will not choose what I believe based on what I consider to be a valid source, because I lack the basic research skills to determine that validlity anyway.
I further state, that although I admit to my astonishing ignorance of history and will do no research to even attempt to verify the nonsense I write, I will continue to post my absurd conclusions and whacky beliefs online or anyplace else I choose.
In other words, I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about but I am going to continue to talk.
In the meantime, I will do things like vote and participate in the political process, just because I can.”

according to Shorty and the Boys on 95.7 the Vibe this morning…48% of Americans do NOT know the words to our country's national anthem; the Star Spangled Banner. So…
O! say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
(On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!)

Ronda,
indeed Johnny Cash had *wonderful* patriotic songs.
his “Ragged old flag” gets me every time. even if as today I've had a patriotic music channel on via the web, heard it a couple of times. “Ragged old flag” comes on, I can't do anything, have to stop and listen.
John Wayne's “face the flag.”
—and Lily, you're a fine babe for recognizing John Wayne there.
indeed Lee Greenwood's God bless …
Okie from Muskogee,
they're gettin' on the fightin' side of me,
battle hymn of the republic, all the verses! love that. heard it sung by a black sopranoyesterday.
all the music from the musical 1776.
