Interactive Bruce Springsteen "The Boss" Song Title Game
This weeks interactive song title game revolves around living legend, Bruce Springsteen.
May 4th, 2008:
"When I first got the letter I was to be inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame I was a little suspicious. New Jersey Hall of Fame? Does New York have a hall of fame? Does Connecticut have a hall of fame? I mean, maybe they don't think they need one. But then I ran through the list of names: Albert Einstein, Bruce Springsteen... my mother's going to like that. She's here tonight. It's her birthday and it's the only time she's going to hear those two names mentioned in the same sentence, so I'm going to enjoy it."
Rules of the game: take the last letter used in the song title posted before you to come up with the next song title, do not post consecutively (someone must post a song in between your post, if there are no more songs left for one letter (often an E) then go on to the next letter. Feel free to post favorite lyrics or associated links.
Have fun, be fast, play fair, enjoy!
We start this week's game with "Because the Night" - it is a T

Much thanks Ronda. When I could not think of a title right away I though “Help me Ronda”, but that is the Beach Boys.
Bruce Springsteen was a good choice. Women love him, men want to be like him. A man on top of his game.

thanks, camper. I have had good ole Bruce on my mind for some time now waiting to pull his wonderful songs out. What an amazing human he is. You are right that women love him and men want to be like him. I hope we have him for a long, long time. Anybody seen him in concert, please share your experience.

Bruce was and is one of the best songwriters and performers in recent memory. Some of the themes are so universal you can't help but me moved by some of them. I think almost anyone can relate to the song Bobbi Jean.

I agree, camper that song's lyrics are in particular haunting, beautiful, and easy to relate to. Most of us have probably had an experience similar to this with a first love or true friend. Thanks for bringing it to mind!

Great point RM. I think the song is haunting, but in a heart-breaking sort of way. The narrator (Springsteen now successful beyond all means) obviously wants to re-connect with a girlfriend from more innocent times, only to find her mom to say Bobby went away. Further lamenting, Springsteen sings, “There was nothing I could do or say, to try to make you change your mind to stay”. Even shouting, ” I wished I could have talke to ya, just to say good bye”. But in the end could only say to himself in closing, “Good Luck, Goodbye, Bobby Jean”.
Of course, the chord structure, vocal delivery and melody make the sentiment even more real…to my ears.
I can only listen to this song maybe once every five years or so cause I don't want to overdue it. But I every time I hear it it brings back good feelings.

Somehow, I can visualize the narrator knocking on the front door. Maybe even understand what it sounded like to hear the screen door close, and realize that a dear friend has moved on (just like most everyone else). Well I better quit here. Don't want to sabotage the thread. Sincerely.

Knocks my sock off if I were wearing any. :) Would anyone seriously not immediately run to the door for this man, or find your way back to him?

OK. my first 2 concerts ever…the Spectrum in Philadelphia, The River tour…my uncle was the physical therapist for Max Weinberg, drummer for the E Street band, so we got backstage passes, and got to hang out with the band backstage. The Boss stayed in his private room, but put on the most amazing 3 and a half hour shows I've ever seen, with about a million encores! Good Gooly Miss Molly, along with its partner Devil with the Blue Dress were among the showstoppers!

Here's more info on Good Golly Miss Molly:
it was part of the 'Detroit Medley' which included Devil with the Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly/Jenny Take a Rice/C.C. Rider. It was a staple of the bands' shows in the 70's and 80's and finally made a recorded appearance on the 1980 album, No Nukes. Hope this helps!
