Interactive Tom Petty Song Title Game

Since Tom Petty will be appearing in concert at The Sprint Center Tuesday, July 22nd, this week's interactive game will revolve around Petty's music performed with the Hearbreakers, Traveling Wilburys, or solo work - which interestingly was always supported and usually participated in with fellow musicians from the Heartbreakers.

Thomas "Tom" Petty (who turns 58 on 10-20) hails from Gainsville, Florida - I wonder if he knows famous southern author Harry Crews? Petty became interested in rock n roll music at age eleven when he met the King himself - Elvis Presley. Who wouldn't be influenced by someone like that!

Although Petty has been nominated 18 times since 1981, it wasn't until 1989, as a member of the Traveling Wilburys, that he received his first Grammy Award.

In 1995 Petty received another Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal for, "You Don't Know How It Feels".

Petty and Jane Benyo were married for 22 years and have two daughters together. Petty is currently married to Dana York.

When Petty isn't performing in concert, writing and recording new material, or hosting his own radio show, he enjoys making special guest appearances on television shows such as: the Gary Shandling Show, The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Comedy Central. He also appeared in the movie, "The Postman" with Kevin Costner.

When I asked my friend Lonelane_1 if there was anything she wanted me to include about one of her favorite performers, this is what she said,

"Wow, what can I say about Tom Petty other than how much I love his music and so many of his lyrics blow me away. I haven't been disappointed at any of the 3 live shows I've seen of his so far. Did you know several years ago his house caught fire, he escaped and he lost about everything? They ruled it arson but the case was never solved.

He has a radio show every Monday on Serius Satellite Radio that I used to be able to listen to at work. It's called "Buried Treasures" and he plays some of his favorite old songs and answers email. He melted my heart one week when he played Dylan's "Sweetheart Like You." ("What's a sweetheart like you doing in a dump like this?") His music has just always been there for me through good and bad. His cds "Echoes" "Wildflowers" "Damn the Torpedoes" "Full Moon Fever" the soundtrack he did for the movie "She's the One"and Greatest Hits are all awesome."

Rules of the game: take the last letter from the song title posted before yours to come up with the next song title. Words such as A, The, And, may be used - or not- as you need in coming up with the title. Allow someone to post between your posts - no posting twice consecutively. Be fast, fair, and don't get upset if you are buzzed, which happens if you post a song that someone else already posted, or you aren't following the rules of the game. If one letter is used up please go on to the next letter,

Lonelane_1 (Happy Birthday!) chose this week's song, "A Face in the Crowd"
