Interactive Neil Young Song Title Game
What famous Canadian singer, songwriter and film director has the middle name Percival? Hint: He is a Scorpio (born November 12th, 1945), had childhood diabetes, polio, epilepsy, and as recently as March 31st, 2005 surgery for a brain aneurysm.Neil Young played with Buffalo Springfield but made his first solo album "Neil Young" in 1968. He also played with Crazy Horse and when he joined Crosby, Stills, and Nash they became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - 1969.Young has written several songs that dealt with events of the time period in which he lived. A few of those are "Ohio", written following the Kent State slayings on May 4, 1970, which Young rededicated to Chinese students killed in Tiananman Square in 1989. His title track "Sleeps With Angels" told the story of Kurt Cobain's death, and "Falling off the Face of the Earth" was a more personal story of his brain aneuryism and his Father's death.Young has two sons who have cerebral palsy and a daughter with epilepsy which has made Young very instrumental in performing concerts for fund raisers and he has done several for numerous events.Young may be Canadian born, but he is an American institution!Rules of the game: take the last letter from the song title posted before yours to come up with the next song title. Words such as A, The, And, may be used - or not- as you need in coming up with the title. Allow someone to post between your posts - no posting twice consecutively. Be fast, fair, and don't get upset if you are buzzed, which happens if you post a song that someone else already posted, or you aren't following the rules of the game. If one letter is used up please go on to the next letter.Today's game starts with: "Falling Off the Face of the Earth"We are starting with the letter H

“How many have seen him in concert? Who with and when!”Never had the opportunity, tho' I did recently obtain an out-of-print copy of Year of the Horse (DVD). My conclusion: Neil's music… a little like sausage… I'm not sure one wants to see it being *made*.Having said that, I love Neil… unparalleled, IMHO, among North American artists.Natural Beauty.Y

No song title. Just checking in to say I saw him with Willie Nelson at Sandstone some years back. I'm a big fan. My favorite album is “Tonight's the Night”. 'Puts the chills up and down my spine…' sings Neil.”On The Beach” is great too. I guess you can say I like his dark side.Anybody besides me have the bootleg “Journey Through the Past” DVD? Any huge fans know the answers to multi's questions about his children? I do know that he played a concert or show with a chunk of coke hanging out of his nostril - that was rather amusing, but I didn't blog it! :)thanks, cool marv and tang and all for playing well and paying close attention. “Let's have some more memories.”I've always loved Neil's *fringe* compositions. I recall days, working at an art gallery, behind the scenes, alternately listening to NPR and afternoon radio serials, arguing over how to fill the space between. It was resolved that we would rotate music selections, each listener getting an opportunity to decide. When my turn came, I chose that salmon-swimming-upstream metaphor,”Will to Love”…”…Sometimes I ramble on and onAnd I repeat myselftill all my friends are gone….”… which invited the protest…”Oh, ain't it the TRUTH!”No patience for seven- and eight-minute* songs, even in those days.*Like a hurricane, though, I was gettin' blown away.

I am so happy you are writing about Neil Young. My older sister left me her records when she left home. Neil Young's “Harvest” and “After The Gold Rush” are part of my own personal teenage soundtrack (while everyone else was listening to disco). I used to listen to those records and my drunken step-father would yell, “Turn that s**t down!” So, I'd turn up “Old Man” (“Old man take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you…”) as loud as I could until he hit the breaker to my room. Ahhh, the memories…

loris63, I am sorry you had such a jerk of a step-father. I too was once the younger sister who was left alone at home and I escaped into music a great deal of the time. I think for a lot of us it was our salvation. We had lyrics that told our stories for us and a lot of people such as Young, the Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc., helped us not only escape, but become who we are today. Mass media well before computers and blogs existed! I am loving getting back in touch with the “good” part from those long distant years. Thanks for writing me your experience and memories.tangential, all I have to say to you is that you are welcome and now get back to the game. :)

It just occurred to me that *someone* in this forum may be able to assist me with a song which has been haunting me, but which I cannot track down. It is NOT a Neil song, but someone interested in this genre may be able to supply the missing clue. (I don't even know what the lyrics are.)It's an unusual sort of “cowboy duet” which opens with a rough male voice singing some minimal lyrics about being out riding the range(?). Then a lilting female voice sings a contrasting melody. Then back to the cowboy, and then back to the girl, until the *contrasting* melodies become intertwined in an alternating fashionIt's NOT standard county and western-I consider a “fringe” song, at best, though I did hear it on the radio years ago. Please someone, mellow my mind.

I am A huge fan of Neil. He is a good writer…I only started to have respect for his song writing until I started to play guitar. I am so blown away on his ability to write great songs in such a short span. He only writes music on the spur of the moment and they end up being beautiful songs …you have to look deep into the meaning but sometimes your thoughts and emotions are so different on what he wrote and feels about the song …I love that so such …that makes a great artist/songwriter…I am a fan speaking! I wish I was in Europe now…he is touring :(Dave

My 1st thought was “Everyone Knows This is Nowhere”. Already used though. Right now my brain is going circular and I come back to the aforementioned song. I gotta good story though. My buddies and I drove to Dallas in the Spring of 91' to catch his show. Sonic Youth and Social Distortion opened. As we were walking from the parking lot to the arena we walked past the tour bus (I think it had a Buffalo Springfield sign on it), we looked inside and could see Neil watching the NCAA basketball tournament. After the show we made a few stops before heading back to Waco. Somewhere near Whitney the same tour bus passed us. Pretty cool.

justbegintowrite: to answer your question on july 10th..”how many have seen Neil in Concert?” As I said before I did not get into Neils music until I picked up the guitar. Now it seems I can not get enough of him. Very Talented, influential and an icon…up there next to Bob Dylan check out this web site and go to Neil News at..http://www.thrasherswheat.org/wheatfield.htmlAnyway…I saw him at 1) GM Place in Vancouver on his Family and Friends tour in I think 2001. Donald “Duck” Dunn from the “Rock'n roll hall of fame” bassist for Booker “T.” and the MG's played bass, his wife and sister (Pegi and Astrid) sang back-up, Jimmy Keltner on drums, Ben “long Grain” Keith, and Spooner Oldham. It was a great concert played a lot of great songs..I remember “Powderfinger, Words and Tonights the Night on the piano …bluesy” Oh and Cowgirl in the sand. This was my favorite concert.2) I saw him in Vancouver BC, Canada at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for the “Greendale” tour.3) I went to “Farm Aid” just outside of Seattle, Wash. Willie, Dave Mathews, John Mellincamp and Jerry Lew Lewis played along with a list of others.4) I saw him at a small venue on Vancouver Island in a place called Duncan. (not drunken Duncan) Just plain ol” Duncan. Neil and his wife played over a dozen or so songs ….I do remember them ALL! (songs that is) All acoustic …it was a special concert to support environment…(not enviromentalists)FYI….he is coming out with an “Archive” set soon done in Blue-Ray check it out on his website!

Crossfire, the link more than made up for the buzz! thanks!I couldn't help but think while listening to the song's lyrics, “its's a war of man” how different our world would be if musicians were politicians! :) Even an artist or a poet - what a change from what we have now. People who believe in a things, people who dare to dream, sensitive, caring individuals. We maybe wouldn't get a lot accomplished, but we could all use some laid back time! :)Great memory you shared, camper! Very neat. My first husband helped push Jimmy Hendrix out of a snow bank at one point and a friend of ours told stories about the Pointer Sisters using their very long fingernails to scoop up coke to sniff. My first also meet Linda Ronstadt.Wow, emmas, you have some wonderful memories of concerts! How well do you play the guitar? Do you sing like Neil? Thanks for the information and we are glad you got into him when you did. He is an amazing man in many, many ways.

Roll Another NumberAnother R..I am probably not the best source to ask - I click the arrow at the top of the page and move it back and forth that way. Sometimes after I have posted I just click on it to my right hand side where it is listed. I agree that it is loading very slowly for me this evening. It is tricky when several people are posting at the same time and I'll think I have a post in and find out someone beat me to it. can be frustrating, eh? Do you say eh a lot? I played a Canadian Mounty for Molsen Light Beer and got to wear a little red mounty uniform with very high heeled black boots. I said eh a lot that evening so I would sound Canadian!

No one seems to know?unreleased song:Once I was in loveNow, it seems that timeIs better spentSearching than in findingBut no one seems to know.So don't say you lose,Don't say you lose,Don't say you win,And no one else will know,No one else will know. When you're down you gather strengthTo leave the groundAnd when you're highIt makes you weak and you fall back down.Once I was in loveNow, it seems that timeIs better spentSearching than in findingBut no one seems to know.
