Interactive Neil Young Song Title Game
What famous Canadian singer, songwriter and film director has the middle name Percival? Hint: He is a Scorpio (born November 12th, 1945), had childhood diabetes, polio, epilepsy, and as recently as March 31st, 2005 surgery for a brain aneurysm.
Neil Young played with Buffalo Springfield but made his first solo album "Neil Young" in 1968. He also played with Crazy Horse and when he joined Crosby, Stills, and Nash they became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - 1969.
Young has written several songs that dealt with events of the time period in which he lived. A few of those are "Ohio", written following the Kent State slayings on May 4, 1970, which Young rededicated to Chinese students killed in Tiananman Square in 1989. His title track "Sleeps With Angels" told the story of Kurt Cobain's death, and "Falling off the Face of the Earth" was a more personal story of his brain aneuryism and his Father's death.
Young has two sons who have cerebral palsy and a daughter with epilepsy which has made Young very instrumental in performing concerts for fund raisers and he has done several for numerous events.
Young may be Canadian born, but he is an American institution!
Rules of the game: take the last letter from the song title posted before yours to come up with the next song title. Words such as A, The, And, may be used - or not- as you need in coming up with the title. Allow someone to post between your posts - no posting twice consecutively. Be fast, fair, and don't get upset if you are buzzed, which happens if you post a song that someone else already posted, or you aren't following the rules of the game. If one letter is used up please go on to the next letter.
Today's game starts with: "Falling Off the Face of the Earth"
We are starting with the letter H

Did I see you down
in a young girl's town
With your mother in so much pain?
I was almost there

With her screamin' in the rain
For further reference make sure that the last letter from the actual song is used: case in point “Hey Hey My My” we would go with the Y. :) Thanks for coming on board to play!

Never had the opportunity, tho' I did recently obtain an out-of-print copy of Year of the Horse (DVD). My conclusion: Neil's music… a little like sausage… I'm not sure one wants to see it being *made*.
Having said that, I love Neil… unparalleled, IMHO, among North American artists.

No song title. Just checking in to say I saw him with Willie Nelson at Sandstone some years back. I'm a big fan. My favorite album is “Tonight's the Night”. 'Puts the chills up and down my spine…' sings Neil.
“On The Beach” is great too. I guess you can say I like his dark side.

I do know that he played a concert or show with a chunk of coke hanging out of his nostril - that was rather amusing, but I didn't blog it! :)

“Let's have some more memories.”
I've always loved Neil's *fringe* compositions. I recall days, working at an art gallery, behind the scenes, alternately listening to NPR and afternoon radio serials, arguing over how to fill the space between. It was resolved that we would rotate music selections, each listener getting an opportunity to decide. When my turn came, I chose that salmon-swimming-upstream metaphor,
“Will to Love”…
“…
Sometimes I ramble on and on
And I repeat myself
till all my friends are gone….”
… which invited the protest…
“Oh, ain't it the TRUTH!”
No patience for seven- and eight-minute* songs, even in those days.
*Like a hurricane, though, I was gettin' blown away.

I am so happy you are writing about Neil Young. My older sister left me her records when she left home. Neil Young's “Harvest” and “After The Gold Rush” are part of my own personal teenage soundtrack (while everyone else was listening to disco). I used to listen to those records and my drunken step-father would yell, “Turn that s**t down!” So, I'd turn up “Old Man” (“Old man take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you…”) as loud as I could until he hit the breaker to my room. Ahhh, the memories…

loris63, I am sorry you had such a jerk of a step-father. I too was once the younger sister who was left alone at home and I escaped into music a great deal of the time. I think for a lot of us it was our salvation. We had lyrics that told our stories for us and a lot of people such as Young, the Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc., helped us not only escape, but become who we are today. Mass media well before computers and blogs existed! I am loving getting back in touch with the “good” part from those long distant years. Thanks for writing me your experience and memories.
