I'm amazed that they weren't hurt worse. That has got to be a driver's worst nightmare.

Why is there no photograph or video of the Westar semi truck and trailer with the load of these long utility poles? Maybe a wider shot with a little more information in it would have been nice. Or some blood.

What is wrong with you realest_mccoy? Troll much?

The utility poles are over length when hauled on the flatbed trailers. They are normally sticking out the back, but have flags or lights as warning devices because of this. What happened here I won't speculate. Will leave that for the rumor central that is always going on. Just wanted to give some information on the load. Prayers for the injured.

Oletimer , sorry but westar and the contractors working for them do not haul utility poles on Flatbed Trailers , they are actually pole trailers made for this such effort.Realest-mccoy... lets see you say something like this when its your family member involved !

Video of this on the news was horrifying...hope the passenger recovers. My first patient in the ER was a passenger impaled by a fence post after a highway accident...he was conscious with the pole through his chest, upright in a wheelchair coming out of the ambulance, cursing as they rolled in the door "Get this......thing out of my chest!" Again, all good wishes to the victim and family.
