Lawrence copes with heat as temperatures reach past 100

As temperatures soared into the 100s residents had many different approaches to deal with the heat.

I remember a day in 2001, my first summer in Lawrence that the Douglas County Bank at 15th and Kasold registered 111 degrees

Having to work around that hot blacktop would be bad enough.....

Imagine having to go into one of those green plasic port-a-johns!!

I wonder what the record hot/cold differential is for a given year. We had something like -18 degrees this winter, now 110. That's got to be close.

Run the garden hose on your air conditioner ( the part outside) It cleans off the dust and cools the freon at the same time.
