The future of Woody Park in Lawrence is uncertain. Plans have been suggested to convert the park into a parking lot for the nearby hospital and also to create a new park in an alternate location.

As a boy I remember the park named after Mr. Woody and I would also see him once in a while. I do not ever remember having a personal vist with him as a boy, but as an adult I would think that if something was named after him I would also think that he was a man that left a legacy that was part of who he was. It seems a shame that the park is not in use as it used to be. I also remember a lot of teams played there that came from the working class. The Journal World workers played there for a couple of years with some sofball teams such as Bob Helstrom and, even Chuck Woodling played on the team. But it is like everything else it goes by the way side for what we term progress. I never checked but is there any plaque there that identifies who Mr. Woody was other that his name? Is it still even used? There ought be something left to the legacy of Mr. Woody. If it comes down to paving it over there should at least one of the fields should be named after him.
