KU considering new alcohol policy

KU officials are discussing a proposal that would allow them to enter dorm rooms without a warrant if underage drinking is suspected to be occurring. The policy comes on the heels of two recent drinking deaths at the university.

Have times ever changed. When I was there the dorms had regular keg parties. The university had parties behind the stadium so big a beer truck would park with taps on the side, a rolling bar literally. I think the dorm parties were free and the others were cheap. Then I remember posters, mugs, etc., were handed out regularly. Beer was a part of college life. I guess the beer has gone the way of the classroom ashtray, hasn't it? Warrantless searches for beer? Carry A. Nation, the hatchet wielding, saloon smashing Kansan from 100 years ago must be smiling from beyond. We've come a quarter century beyond 1984 into the Brave New World of the 21st Century.
