Police investigating armed robberies

Lawrence police are investigating armed robberies at two Lawrence liquor stores tonight. The first happened just before eight at Hird Liquor near 6th and Kasold. The second occurred less than an hour later at Glass House Liquor near 23rd and Wakarusa.

Kane misdemeanor charge dismissed

A judge agreed to dismiss a misdemeanor charge against a former Lawrence teacher convicted of having sex with a student. The dismissal will not affect the five-year prison sentence 24-year-old Meredith Kane received.

Lawrence's 2007 New Year's baby

She was born Jan. 1, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and spent nine days at Children's Mercy Hospital after her mother's emergency cesarean section. Everything turned out fine, and her parents, Michael and Dee Steinle, and her brother, Aaron, share the highlights of her first year.
