Power still out in much of Jefferson County

Train derails in east Lawrence

Six train cars derailed early this morning in east Lawrence. Crews from Burlington Northern Santa Fe were on the scene today east of 11th and Haskell trying to determine what caused the accident.

New lights too bright for Kasold-area residents

Several west Lawrence residents have seen the light, and now they want it dimmed. When the city rebuilt Kasold Drive between 22nd Street and Bob Billings Parkway, they installed 40 new street lights on the one-mile stretch.

Jingle Bell run benefits community

Holiday decor was on the move tonight downtown during the fifth annual Jingle Bell Run and Walk. 115 people, six dogs and even a Santa Claus participated to raise money for the Ballard Community Center and the Boys and Girls Club.

The Piper High boys' basketball team returned to the Hy-Vee Shootout this evening to take on one of its border rivals. For the second straight season the Pirates traveled to Avila University for the event that slates 16 Kansas squads against 16 teams from Missouri.
