Man to serve 30 days for animal cruelty

A Lawrence man convicted of suffocating his roommate's pet rabbit will serve 30 days in jail. 23-year-old Austin Newport plead guilty last month to a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge for attempting to suffocate a rabbit several times in July 2006.

Last Call appeals license decision

The owner of the controversial downtown nightclub Last Call appealed a decision by the state not to renew the club's liquor license. A lawyer for owner Dennis Steffes contends that the state did not take into account the number of times Last Call staff members reported drug activity to the police.
