LJWorld! Put the gun down and walk away! Life is too precious to waste it on something like this! You have so much to live for! You are a good paper not owned by the likes of Gannett! DON'T DO IT! Plus facebook is dead in 2 years for sure. Complaining about civility of comments on the internet is the dumbest excuse Ive ever heard.

Higher education budget, new gun law among items to be discussed at upcoming regents retreat

What this article glosses over is the stake the BoR has in the Big 12 conference. Rumors are intensifying that KU is a top target for the Big 10, no matter how much Matt Tait denies it. I have no doubt there will be private discussions about what course of action the BoR will take since they have the final say. KSU has no hope of joining the B1G, and this creates a grand ethical problem for the BoR, deny your top University a chance to collaborate with some of the most elite Universities in the US so that #2 can maintain its current high profile athletic program in a conference that is shaky at best.

Local leaders dissect the Lawrence economy's challenges and opportunities

everyone here is acting like the sky is falling for Lawrence, trust me it's not. I think Lawrence is going to need to look at how it is going to best relate itself to Johnson county and KCMO, but the notion that we are in trouble is nonsense. Mass Street is thriving and expanding in a reasonable way, and that is an asset that few areas of the country can boast.

I'd say one of the biggest challenges for Lawrence is going to be how it can pick up some of the heavylifting KU does. KU is and is going to be in an arms race against its cultural peer universities for the next 10 years. KU is building up for a Big Ten conference invite that will allow the academic side of University to share resources will all Big Ten schools plus Johns Hopkins and U of Chicago. New dorms, new business school, new engineering building, new Jayhawk Blvd, new addition to AFH, RCPark. That is a lot of construction, and it tells me something is up. The Chancellor's office probably sees the political climate in the state continuing to senselessly attack education spending. KU has to help itself for 10 years, and so Lawrence needs to be aware of that factor.

Olathe man facing trial in botched home invasion in Lawrence says target was $30K in drug money

Mayhan should have said he admitted to the crime under the influence of heavy painkiller they give for gunshot wounds. No way I would talk to the cops in the hospital w/o a lawyer! nothing you can say to the cops can be used in your defense.

Knology changes its name to WOW!; lifts usage caps on Internet service

I used to have sunflower silver, and it was great because it didn't get clogged up like the palladium(wtf kinda name is that) tier. Overall though, the speeds being offered in Lawrence are pretty pathetic for the price.

Also, I've heard that many student apartment communities have lost internet service from wow/knology like Hawks Pointe and the Connection during Finals week of all weeks. Does anyone know if this was related to the switch over to wow?

Four-year Jayhawk Boulevard construction project could end with re-creation of old tree canopy, new center bike lane

Hopefully they will stop over trimming the trees. Looking at the trees currently on campus is an eyesore, no one in their right mind can call the current state of trees as properly maintained. They butcher the trees and it is tough to look at. Overall I like the vision for Jayhawk Blvd however.

Undercover task force cites 17 businesses for selling alcohol to minors

Waste of police resources. No one cares. Minors will always still get the booze. Get off your moral high horse. It is insanity that fine establishments that help our community are being fined for providing a refreshment in a controlled environment to those who are undoubtedly old enough.
