Wicked Broadband project seeks $500,000 city grant; downtown hotel project seeks adjustment to incentives package; historical society seeks $20k for new exhibit
Free money, just show with a half-baked plan, give some lame excuses about how it's needed for this and that, and then wait for the checkbook to open. All the while, basic city services go underfunded, delayed and scoffed at. And it it's this bad at the local level, just imagine how screwed the system is at the state and federal levels.

Regal chain buys Lawrence's Hollywood Theaters; speculation begins on whether upgrade is in the future
Quit going there sometime ago after a friend who went had a mouse crawl up his leg, ran across his arm and launched onto the chair next to him. I'd been outa there seconds after that demanding my money back.

Orchards Golf Course in West Lawrence sold, renamed CobbleStone Golf Course
The (former) Orchards does need a lot of work. Serious $$$ and a couple of years will be needed to get it into only decent shape. And as for taking a cart on that course, you either have to old, nursing an injury, lazy (aka half-in-the-bag before you get there) or just plain stuuppiidd to ride a cart there. And as for the 20 and 30 sumptions who want to grip it and rip it, on that course, it ain't happening - go play elsewhere. It's an executive course, a place for beginners, weekenders and those who want to bone up on their short game. It could be a great course, of course, I just hope they do some much and long-overdue clean up, fix up and routine maintenance. And thanks to the neighborhood and Ed for working to keep it as green space.

City prepares to sign development agreement for Rock Chalk Park recreation center as questions continue
I hate to say it, but this has been a "done deal" from the get-go. And it's another, in a long, long line of "wants" projects that always trump "needs" projects. And if it's this bad, on a local level, times that by 100 for state projects, and times 1000 for federal projects. And then you can understand how screwed up spending is from sea to shining sea. And that's about all I have to say about that.

In Obama's second inaugural address, he calls on U.S. to help poor, elderly
and did you see those Bibles the Pres and VP were sworn in with? Wrapped in asbestos it looked like.

In Obama's second inaugural address, he calls on U.S. to help poor, elderly
Preserve . . . protect . . . defend. In this case it was closer to being he'll make it subserve . . . completely reject . . . try to descend. That's what a socialist will do.

Family's homemade cookies thank those who spend holiday on the job
We've known the Marks since the mid 80's - couldn't meet nicer, more friendly people anywhere. Thanks to them and others who honor the work of those who make it easier to go to sleep at night - knowing Lawrence and Douglas County is well protected. - And their vet business is second to none.

Poll: More say global warming is occurring
blah, blah, blah. global warming. blah, blah, blah, . . . now it's climate change. blah, blah, blah. save the whales, save the snails, save the plastic bag. George Carllin said it best. And now, I have some AlGore carbon credits to offer you at a discount price. blah, blah, blah. and that's all i have to say about that.
