City approves $75K for glass artwork for library, $5.2 million for parking garage bids
KU grad Dierk Van Keppel does beautiful work. I can't wait to see it!

Residents get answers on proposed rec center
Reviewing Option A, provided by the city last night, one must wonder how traffic flows will occur.
1400 parking spaces are provided, with overflow capacity on grass. There are only two routes for entrance/exiting. Has KDOT approved this quantity of vehicular traffic onto 40 highway? Or is this still considered 6th street, which would become the problem of the City? Will the children need a crossing guard, perhaps? It's all about the kids, right?
Also, thank you Parks and Recreation for being sensitive to private membership health clubs.
Your not wanting to compete with there business, will continue to provide minimum wage jobs to the few people they employ. Many members of the community enjoy full year memberships, paid in advance, to support local business. Unfortunately, many more are not able to provide that support. Yet you ask they support this effort for the entire community?

Costs, scope of proposed recreation center escalate
It was unfortunate that no one from KU Endowment showed up to this meeting. Commissioners and staff trying only to sell the building, not the project. Way to many basketball courts, nothing to be proud of. Unless you play basketball.
What a disappointment...

Memorial Day 2012
I am pleased to see the quantity of people honoring the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform today. I am also saddened that the contractor of the construction project at 11th and Indiana choose to not allow the alien workforce enjoy a day off with their families to honor that sacrifice. It is entirely possible, though, that their families are out of country awaiting the money transfer from their fathers, brothers, and husbands. Hopefully, the contractor will give them the Labor day weekend off, unless they are building the Recreation Center.

Volunteers help agencies with to-do lists on Day of Caring
Nine, count'em, nine volunteers showed up to help Save the Wetlands director Mike Caron on the Day of Caring to perform trail maintenance. I didn't see Bob Eye in the picture, nor any other Wetlands activists for that matter. One would think an army of volunteers would be in the photo to show how much they care about the wetlands. Let the construction begin.
