Tennessee couple arrested in Lawrence in connection with the 2009 death of their baby daughter

Why would it take more than a year to investigate this and bring charges? Such a sad story.

Gov. Sam Brownback’s move on Kansas Human Rights Commission criticized

So, the Attorney General's office has enough spare time to take on this work? Interesting.

Women, men rally against rape

I think it is sad how such an important issue has been turned into an argument about who is hurt more by sexual assualt and domestic violence, men or women. I don't think any, mildly-intelligent person could make a legitimate argument that men are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence at as high a rate as women. Of course there are lots of men (both children and adults) who are victims, but that issue is NOT minimized by the rally or the article. The true issue is that sexual assault and domestic violence hurts People...women, children, and men; and these groups are trying to bring attention to the issue and allow victims and survivors to have a forum. How is that a bad thing?

Frankly, the fact that you all feel the need to argue about how this issue hurts men and how men are unfairly ignored regarding the issue, is incredibly sad. If the rally focuses on women who have been raped and beaten, does that make it less important? Less of a reality? The reality is that many of your sisters, wives, mothers, and daughters have been abused and that fact alone should be enough to legitimize this event. What would be wrong with focusing on women and how violence impacts women? Don't you care about your mothers? daughters? sisters? I don't believe that men are harmed by events that draw attention to the impact of violence against women and children.

Violence and sexual assault are important issues in our society, and events that bring those issues to the forefront are needed and welcome. And if you have a better solution than those of WTCS and GaDuGi, then please, please start and organization and help...because I think the one thing we can all agree on is that more can be done.

Former Lawrence criminal not guilty this time

You should read the article about the justifiable homicide before you jump to conclusions because of someone's past. The LJW did not give much of a description, but the Yakima paper had a detailed account of the incident... and obviously the jury knows more about this case than you do. Just because you got in trouble at 16 doesn't mean you can't protect yourself from on armed assailant later in life.

Lawrence doctor on trial for surgery error

The question here is why hasn't her insurance company just paid this? $750,000 isn't that much for an ovary. This woman now cannot have any more children b/c her ONE GOOD ovary was removed b/c of the doctor's error. Obviously the doctor is at fault, now we will see how much a jury thinks the ability to have children is worth.

I think the doctor's insurance company should just pay this small amount. They are probably spending well over $200,000 to defend the case.

Superintendent gets raise, new contract

I think you should think about this more logically. Weseman has a very difficult job and we are lucky to have such a talented person in that job. Our schools would be much worse off without him.

If this job didn't pay well, we would likely have a less-qualified, less-effective person in the position. Weseman could make a lot more money in the private sector, and that is why it is necessary to pay him this much.

I agree that teachers should be paid more and students should have the best education possible. Of course, a lot of that comes down to the community not wanting to pay more taxes or fees.

This is a complicated issue, and should not all fall on the shoulders of one administrator.

Kline says inquisition helped in arrest

Solomon, I understand that 14 year olds are not supposed to have sex...but to assume every 14 year old who gets pregnant and has an abortion did so because she was raped by an older man is short cited. Don't you think that 14 year old girls have sex with 14 year old boys? Do you want to prosecute those cases too?

Teenagers have sex with each other...big surprise, it happens! I suggest that you be a good parent, talk to your kids, and be there for them so that YOU know what is going on with YOUR OWN kids' bodies, and keep Phil Kline out of it!!

AG candidate says he'll halt abortion clinic investigations

First of all, if you really think that Kline's inquest into abortion clinics is truly about child rape, then you are seriously misguided. There is NO evidence of illegal abortions being performed at these clinics. Abortion clinics are HEAVILY regulated by the state and federal government already, and yes the doctors are required to report evidence of abuse.

I think we all know that teenagers have sex with each other, and if you are interested in having an attorney generaly who wants to criminally prosecute 15 year olds for engaging in consensual sex with another 15 year old...then you are seriously disturbed. Yes, I would prefer my teenager not have sex, but I do not want them criminally prosecuted for it!

Also, I think categorizing someone as "pro-abortion" just because they are not going to persecute doctors performing legal procedures for some misguided religious reasons is very shortsighted. People who are Pro-Choice are NOT Pro-Abortion! Pro-Choice means that you believe this is an individual decision that is often very difficult, but that it shouldn't be dictated by an evangelical's biblical beliefs. Often Pro-Choice people would not make that choice for themselves, but believe the right should exist for others.

Do not forget the time and money he wasted trying to force the state to stop using medicaid money to pay for abortions for indigent victims of rape and incest. Supposedly he is investigating abortion clinics to help these victims, yet he spent over $30,000 on a frivilous lawsuit trying to stop the state from paying for the abortions for these victims. Oh yeah, and the state payed LESS than $2,000 in medicaid for these procedures last year!!! And the state is federally mandated to do so! I think it is sick and sad that he is using the attorney generals office to try and obtain VERY private information about people.

Below are exermpt from other articles about Kline's Anti-Choice actions and expenses...it is obvious he is using his office and resources for political, anti-choice campaigns, and NOT to investigate child rape!

"Those include $152,701 to Vincent Rue, a Jacksonville, Fla., consultant who founded an anti-abortion institute and argues that abortion causes psychological trauma for women and girls.

Rue's work was used in a still-pending federal lawsuit filed by the Center for Reproductive Rights, a New York advocacy group, over a 1982 law that Kline says requires doctors, teachers and others to alert authorities to cases of consensual sex between minors as well as child abuse."

"Kline also spent $31,126 on two attorneys to bring a lawsuit against state-financed abortions for Medicaid recipients. The case was dismissed. The monies went to Lance Kinzer, a Republican state representative from Olathe, who received $11,655, and Dorinda Bordlee, an anti-abortion advocate and attorney formerly from New Orleans, who received $19,471."
