Sound Off: Stoplight timing

Be thankful its only that. If you take I-70 to the Denver airport via E-470 the 7ish miles costs you 3.25. One way.

The E stands for extortion.

Haskell's president, Chris Redman, leaving for job in Oklahoma

Oh I understand the history here. I work with tribes on a daily basis.

And I'm not advocating shutting it down.

However, once you win the first fight and get the kid off the rez. and get him into Haskell it still seems like its doomed to fail once he gets here. These numbers do not show that any meaningful success is achieved.

How do other mostly two year school's staffing to student ratio work out compared to this school? What this is saying that if every staff person was responsible for 4 kids coming in the door freshman year, only one will be walking out with a degree.

That's deplorable.

All of this fails to begin to touch on what seems to be the systemic disfunction of administration of that school.

Haskell's president, Chris Redman, leaving for job in Oklahoma

Didn't realize it was that bad.

4 to 1 Student to faculty/staff rate. Manages to eek out 26% graduation rate with a mostly 2 year program.

Costs a student less than a thousand dollars over two years.

How does this even begin to qualify as a measure of success?

Tax enables hundreds of adults to earn high school diploma

Taxed once to pay for public education.

Taxed again because someone failed to take the responisbility to obtain a HS education seriously the first time.

Lawrence ranked second-worst-performing small metro area, according to new national economic index

Name them.

What intangibles makes Boulder so special that you can't find them in Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, or any of the numerous towns all along the front range. All have the same climate, all have the same access to skiing, biking, hiking, fishing and camping.

Opinion: U.S. must do more to fight radical Islam

Sorry Cal, I'm not going to agree to chip away at personal freedoms because for gun control and I'm not going to chip away at personal freedoms because someone half a world away doesn't believe in the same things I believe in.

Laws don't stop criminals.

Brownback to tour in support of his higher education budget

One tech school, two community colleges and nothing "west" of Wichita.

It's not that he can't claim he doesn't have time given that its taking about a month and a half to do this circuit.

A strong argument could be made that the people he needs to sway to his way of thinking are west of the I-35 line and he's seeminging purposely avoiding them. I mean if you are hitting KC with two schools on one day, one would think that hitting Hays in the morning would allow Barton or Colby in the afternoon.

That's nine schools and not one west of I-35. There is a message in that.

Lawrence's retail sales up 2.1 percent for first quarter

You always see these numbers in the vacuum without correlating #'s of retail businesses. For example with Eudora's 16%, do they have the same # of retail busniess for that time period? Fewer? More? Is an individual shopkeep seeing an uptick in business or a dilution due to increased competition? Are the sales values due to opening of a much anticipated shopping location like when Legends opened or a first or second Walmart in a community or due to an active push from the local chamber to bring in small busniness?

Rio Adams a goner; Ben McLemore decides today

I've no idea how to even to respond to this drivel. You are using Ben as poster boy for why US education values are down? Really?

He might be an also ran. He might blow his knee a month into the NBA season. He might stay three more years here, win two Championships and go on to be MVP of the NBA finals the year after that. No one can see that far.

What is known right here and now though is that he is assured of making top 5 lottery money if he goes now. Seems like a good thing to me.
