Yes a few may not have a car or a computer (ever heard of Freenet?), but they have cable tv, flat screens, money for cigs, tattoos, alchohol and whaterver else. You count every ABLE BODIED needy person in Lawrence that REALLY can't make it without assistance and what do you have ...Maybe a hundred people? that's tops. How many of those people actually have to go to the office on a regular basis? 10 a month? A cab ride for or a bus once a week is a thousand times less than that monster building costs a week. There are a thousand solutions to this problem and fortunately the first step has been made.

If we didn't have an SRS there wouldn't be any money to hand out for tattoos. Don't tell me it's not out there because I see it EVERY DAY where I work. Money from Vision used for groceries and thy use real money for all the other unnecessary crap that others can't afford because they are responsible.

Hip Hip horay for Brownback!! this is the type of common sense Gutsy guy that will keep Kansas from going bankrupt.

Brownback touts progress made in job creation

I can't believe you people. Here is a man that is making the necessary adjustments to save this stare from bankruptcy. We have a president that is doing the exact opposite and you just follow along like lemmings. Cuts must be made and here is someone with enough guts to get the job done. You will be touting his achievements in a couple of years when Kansas has a surplus and we don't NEED an overstaffed SRS.

Lawrence school district lines up lease for warehouse

Any way it is a huge gamble they cannot afford to risk. What if the cost of some goods depreciate during storage? They may as well be trading options. Lets add on to what we have at least that would be a long term asset.

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks purchases land for new refuge

Drunken sailors, Quit spending the money we don't have. KPERS is underfunded by how many billions, road projects canceled, 1% sales tax not repealed, come on. We can buy some land that can never be sold and we have fifty cents over what this costs in the bank account so let;'s go for it.

Lawrence city commission to ponder year-end longevity payments for employees

Why not give the employees $24 per year and make everyone happy. Something is better than nothing.

Library ‘yes’

I do not understand why we can't get some of the federal stimulus money for this "shovel ready" project. 18 million is peanuts compared to the billions still out there for these types of projects. Before we ask the citizens to pay this wasteful spending let's see the paperwork where the feds turned us down.
Also Judy, If you think that a local company with local subs will be contracted to build this structure I laugh.

Would you want Missouri joining the Big Ten?

There should be a tournament of the top 1-2 teams in each conference. Then a championship. That way there is a definite "best" team in the nation not just subjective appointments to bowls. There should still be bowl games for anyone who wants to have them .

Do you think state-owned casinos are a good idea?

The government should not operate any sort of enterprise it is a bad idea. The government cannot operate anything fiscally, especially themselves. They would make more by taxing them at 50% and be done with it.
