Advocates for people with developmental disabilities say they want to stay out of KanCare

The ID/DD/MR folks have a strong lobby and a complex service system. I'm afraid that's the only thing that's kept the Koch/Brownback/CStreet train from barreling through their lives thus far. But it's coming. And it's going to be ugly.

Disability advocates cheer new federal guidelines on school sports

It's not about band vs. sports vs. theater, etc. It's about people with disabilities having the same rights and opportunities as everyone else in our country. It's about school's not saying the kid with cerebral palsy can't try out for wrestling. It's about saying HE SURE AS HELL CAN AND HAS THE SAME RIGHT TO TRY. This is a civil rights issue. The ADA and Rehab Act are CIVIL RIGHTS laws. There is nothing new here. The Rehab Act was passed in 1973, but was not complied with for decades. This is about finally policing schools who have discriminated against students with disabilities since...well...EVER.

Lawsuit claims KU medical school violated Americans With Disabilities Act

The ADA is a civil rights law the provides protections so people with disabilities aren't discriminated against or have recourse to fight back if they are discriminated against. However, the student must be able to perform the work (as a student or as an employee) with or without reasonable accommodation. If she can't, then it's not discrimination. The ADA does not give carte blanche rights for any person with a disability to do whatever they "want" to do. As was noted previously, there are no blind pilots. Some jobs require physical demands, and while all options should be looked at and accommodations made where possible, there may indeed be times when it is not possible for someone with a disability to perform a certain job.

If the holder of a winning lottery ticket mistakenly throws it away and someone else discovers it, who is the owner of the ticket?

A woman in my small home town in Kansas, threw away her winning ticket and sued the State of Kansas AND WON. I kid you not. This had been 10 years ago, at least, so I hope they've updated the law.

Should tattoos be covered up in the workplace?

By that token, plucking your eyebrows and having hi-lighted hair are pretty childish, too.
