Well I'm sure I am not the only one who is reversing her decision to buy a house in Douglas County. This makes absolutely no sense. People are out of work, taking paycuts and losing their homes by defaulting on mortgages and taxes. So the answer is to raise property taxes????? I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed the many vacant businesses downtown, but good ole Lawrence wants to keep businesses local and is selective about who they let come in. Yea, that's really working out. Empty buildings means less jobs and less jobs mean people have less to spend-even at local businesses. I'm sick of everyone and their mom being expected to make improvements around Lawrence when only a few have the funds to do so. I also don't think that people who aren't living in Lawrence should have any say in the DLI either. Who cares if they work here- as far as I'm concerned, they directly affect the people who do, do not pay property taxes and take up jobs that could go to locals. I am so fed up and I wouln't be suprised if every angry, economically starved person in the country decided to start buring things down and going after those who have too much. It is truly what needs to happen in order for the wealthy and selfish to wake up.
