Editorial: End in sight

" An active group of critics still is vehemently opposed to the construction of this road. "

Maybe they are all Republicans, and if so, will keep voting it down 40 more times after it is built.

City voices support for $725k loan to shelter but wants further discussion of terms

been-there - not trying to be a smart-alec, but are you in a dream world ?? Money left over from the roof ?? Yeah, right, I am sure every penny of that will be 'required' for the repairs. (Oh, and no estimates beforehand either)

And you know I could certainly maintain a "can-do attitude". Particularly if I "can-do" with OPM (Other People's Money for those not as old as I.)

City voices support for $725k loan to shelter but wants further discussion of terms

jhwkdoc1964 - Why the balloon payment so far out ?? Simple really. The shelter gets to have this 'free' money until the current commissioners are LONG GONE. Then it is somebody else's problem and they and just blame it on these guys and say there is nothing they can do about it when the shelter defaults.

But this will not be the last of the money grabs, this is just a different look. In another year or two it will be something else. And wait for budget time........

Attorney General Schmidt's office declines to issue legal opinion on voter registration controversy

Somehow this does not surprise me the Schmidt. He doesn't have "what it takes" to do his job independent of the party line (or the BB/KK line) and actually do his job. He will just defer, because he doesn't want to issue a ruling counter to KK. Not to mention all the money Schmidt's lawyer buddies will make defending this unconstitutional law.

Renter beware: real estate scam surfaces again

grammaddy - it is not the owner doing these. The owner has no idea somebody has stolen the listing and put it up on Craigslist (aka- scam, stolen, etc.).

Best bet - see what you are paying money for before sending money. Not always possible, but in terms of housing, that kind of thing on Craigslist, I would stick with that.

Downtown Lawrence call center gives details on plans to hire nearly 200

Chad, so what you are saying here is that someone talked to you, but you did all the work ??

It could be 200 jobs - well maybe/maybe not -just a guess
Refused to give pay scale for jobs - but you found out what it averages in Lawrence
Didn't say which companies will be providing service for - but you went to the web site to see what was listed now.

I think this "spokesperson" could probably be a politician. Give an interview, but don't really tell any details that might come back and 'bite ya' later.

I am glad it was you doing the writing, because I know you did the extra to put some substance in it.

Armored vehicle, recently bought by Lawrence police with federal grant, appearing on city streets

Good to see they are still good at manipulating the media and the public to hide things in public. :)

Yes, talking about pics is just mean. It is just so you can torture people who were asleep during this. :)
