Letter: Election change

A great LTE. Here is yet another solution in search of a problem, as this corrupt and dangerous legislature goes on wrecking everything that is decent about Kansas.

Lawrence man charged in federal court with the illegal sale of eagle feathers

What part of 'illegal' did these guys not understand?

Leave those ill eagles alone!

But - what if the feathers came from roadkill?

Ottawa woman, 60, sentenced to 25 years for dealing prescription drugs

An absurdly heavy sentence.

Editorial: Tax shift

Oh, but there is a compelling reason: this is a direct gift to the oil-and-gas lobby, whose storage tanks and other such business facilities in Kansas will now be un-taxed. Remember whom to thank when your property tax bill jumps higher than its ever been.

County likely to OK sand pit permit

Those "thousands of square miles of ag land" are in currently in the process of drying up. Soon it will all be sand. Those 400 acres of the best soil on the planet are irreplaceable.

County likely to OK sand pit permit

"When you restrict individual rights and liberties, government should use the least restrictive alternatives, and should do so only to protect physical safety, health and welfare," Flory said. "It should not [be] to advance a political view or philosophy."

Well Mr. Flory, you have just advanced the political philosophy of the anti-environment gas-and-oil libertarian frackers. At a time of supreme challenge to our water supply and precious riverine soil, you should recognize the importance of protecting these vital resources for Kansans' health and welfare.

City now strongly considering adding glass to proposed curbside recycling program

I'm delighted that Lawrence is finally getting serious about recycling. May I suggest that you hold off on issuing more containers. Most people still have their old trash cans, and there is a big disparity in the amount of trash that each household produces.

Legislature considering delays in renewable energy standards

An idiot wind is blowing hot out of Topeka. Every quack in the climate denial industry is being asked to opine at the behest of the oil industry and its bought politicians. They failed to drive us off the fiscal cliff so they will drive us off the environmental cliff by denying reality. The Kansas statehouse is a loony bin.

Compton says he thinks convention center would be good addition to downtown Lawrence

Gosh, a convention center in downtown Lawrence is an awful idea! When Compton talks, people in Lawrence get pissed off.

New owner plans to convert site of troubled North Lawrence mobile home park into single-family neighborhood

If the one acre property was already zoned, it was for a trailer court, and is not the same zoning as the rest of the neighborhood. It sure sounds as though they want to recreate the same cramped and unsanitary situation. I believe that zoning in the rest of North Lawrence requires a generous ratio of land to built ground cover to allow for drainage, and this should be required for that property too. Why tear down one slum just to replace it with another?
