Opinion: Taxes pose human question

The above argument seems to embody the current GOP mantra...and the weirdest thing about it is that people keep buying it even though it totally ignores the fact that most of us actually are raising kids here and live here and therefore are the biggest stakeholders with the most to lose if we continue to allow the slide to third world social conditions and wealth inequality. NEWSFLASH: Businesses main focus is the bottom line and that has nothing to do with creating opportunity or jobs for the future of this country or any other.

And yes...government, for several decades now goes out of its way to help business at the expense of the people who live here work here and raise our children here. Why do you think business invests millions of dollars on "lowering burdensome regulations and taxation"? Do you really believe that it's because they want everyone to "share the ownership" of our country or the economy? It's because it's the BEST investment for their money!

Statehouse Live: Bill to repeal in-state tuition for undocumented students introduced in committee

To all the people who are saying go home and stop taking jobs and free stuff...just so you know...since the LJworld had yet to report on this and no one is reading the above link:

"Details are expected to emerge this week about a bill establishing the outline of a state-managed worker program, in cooperation with the federal government, linking sponsor companies with illegal immigrants who have been in Kansas a minimum of five years."

"A likely candidate would be a person who entered Kansas on a visa that expired years ago"

Lawrence family seeking to avoid homelessness, get to Northwest for new job

I wish this family the best and hope that they find the kindness and compassion they showed to others waiting for them at the beginning, middle, and end of this journey. Hang in there Quesenberry’s! Some of us do care...a whole awful lot!

KU, Brownback joining to hold conference on slavery, human trafficking

What "work"? Brownback says a lot of things that are designed to make him look like a good guy, but like his talk around things like reducing prison recidivism, he passes bills and says a bunch of good stuff and then underfunds them and undermines them with policies that allow more exploitation and oppression. Not impressed.

Business, labor clash over bill aimed at restricting union politicking

wrong wrong wrong...many states are now allowing corporations to divert payroll tax money back into the corporations....they are not required to ask permission or even to tell the employees that their payroll taxes are being diverted back into the company instead of to the state to pay for services. Maybe the real world ain't what you think it is?

Business, labor clash over bill aimed at restricting union politicking

The Kansas Chamber of Commerce and supporters are the epitome of greedy selfish hypocrisy. "It's just an insidious way to get money from someone" says Smith....
Yet we don't here him complaining (or any of the Kansas media covering) about Chinese owned AMC theaters diverting their employee's payroll taxes (a fact that AMC isn't even required to divulge to said employees) back into their corporate coffers? (A move which diverted 4.8 millions dollars out of Kansas tax revenue away from services for Kansas residents)

utterly SICKENING

"AMC Entertainment announced a deal last year to move its corporate headquarters from Kansas City, Mo., to a nearby Kansas suburb. In return, Kansas will let the multiplex chain keep $47 million of state income taxes withheld from its workers’ paychecks, a drain on public finances that did not create any jobs, but does enrich the Wall Street firms that own AMC including arms of J. P. Morgan, Apollo Management, Bain Capital and the Carlyle Group.
