City planners recommending denial of proposed Menard's store; Planning Commission to debate project Monday
250 new growth jobs should trump any flimsy recommendations of the planning commission. Plus, Home Depot needs the competition.

Lawmakers won’t review concealed carry for blind
WTF! Blind and severely disabled people can carry a concealed handgun in public? Next thing you'll tell me is they also qualify for a drivers license. Same difference.

Agg beating: Jayhawks suffer worst blowout of season in 61-7 loss to Texas A&M
TG should be fired tomorrow, before the Border War finale. Let Chuck Long be the interim head coach for one game. Does anyone feel we'll be less competitive on Saturday with an interim coach?
If he's not fired then the AD is worthless and needs to go also.
If the AD's been told he can't fire him for financial reasons, then he should resign in protest tomorrow to salvage some level of self-respect and value as a future AD with another university. Why would he want to stay here anyway if his hands are tied in dealing with this debacle?
Fire TG or resign. Either way he'll be a hero.
Do nothing and he's just another worthless bureaucrat.

USGS: 5.6 magnitude quake rattles Oklahoma; temblor may be record for state
We were at the movie theater. Both my wife and I felt the seats shake but the picture didn't. Nobody else seemed to notice it. Lasted about 10 seconds I think.

Lawrence school district preparing to deal with $3 million loss
HEADLINE: "Lawrence school district preparing to deal with $3 million loss."
or
ALTERNATIVE: "Lawrence school district preparing to deal with 2.5% budget reduction."
Both are true statements, but which one sounds more sensational and dire?
$3 million might sound like a big number. But it's slightly less than 2.5% of the total budget. I think given the current economy, a 2.5% expenditure reduction is very reasonable. Most families and small businesses are cutting back their expenses by at least that much.
LJW... let's go for less sensationalism and more objective reasoning in your reporting. Our world is changing, and we must adapt.
