Panhandler gifts are best charity
Good essay, but I take issue with the inclusion of buskers! Street performers are not beggars! They offer a service, adding to the ambiance of the downtown scene, and should not be cast into the same category as those who simply ask for money.

James Naismith, Haskell among finalists for Eight Wonders of Kansas People contest
John Haskell - yes! Architect of many fine Kansas buildings, including several in Lawrence!
Without any negativism toward the HINU, I agree that it's inappropriate in this category. And Naismith may have been born in Canada and started throwing balls at peachbaskets in Springfieid, but he spent a very long career here, and made his name long after he left the other places.

Turnpike accident cleared, replaced by rush hour congestion
The "amount" of people injured? Do you mean like 60% of one person and 37% of another?

Has Facebook been good or bad for your social life?
So what's with asking only the youngsters? I'm 60+ and FB's gotten me back in touch with people I haven't seen for decades,...and I'm catching up with them! Love it!

Europe wilts in heat wave
Here in the Baltics everyone believes in Global Warming. Especially this week. Trains to the beach are overcrowded, fans sold out, and supermarkets with air conditioning full of people, if not shoppers!

When you travel, do you unpack or live out of your suitcase?
I like to hang things up! And it's really really annoying when a room I'm paying to stay in doesn't have places to put things!
Of course it depends on how long I'm staying, too.

Thriving at 75: Music academy at KU marks anniversary with new programming
Yeah, those were the best six weeks! You stayed long enough to get acquainted, to feel comfortable with fellow musicians, and have a great time. I loved it; I was there in the late fifties, and still play my instrument, although never was a professional.

The au pair experience: Two Lawrence families open homes to international help
“It’s an option that not many people in Lawrence have heard of.”
And just how out-of-it country bumpkinish does she think Lawrencians are, anyway? Not heard of au pairs?
And I do not believe there are only two of them in Lawrence! There have been au pairs in Lawrence for decades. Yuppies who think they invented sophistication make me really, really tired.
Sincerely,
A Lawrencian currently out of the country, imagine!

‘Oceans’ brings vastness of sea up close
The word "enormity" does not mean "enormousness," unless it is a shocking circumstance. Rather it connotes something heinous or outrageous.
