Fire chief working double duty in new role

My concern is the tax dollars goin to the Super Chief. Inevitably, there will come a day when he stumbles upon some form of "kryptonite". If the chief is incapacitated, he will not be doin the job he is PAID to do. His job will be left to the senior ranking firefighter on the scene. If the capt. or lieutenant is forced to fulfill the chief's responsibilites anyhow, why not pay HIM / HER for their service? Prorate the chief's salary if need be. As long as my tax dollars are going to the individuals EARNING them, then I'm content.

What now?

I feel your pain. My "soulmate", and I recently split up, because of all the drama, in MY life. Drama caused by vindictive ex's, who are apparently raging with jealousy. I felt it was not fair of me to ask her to deal with all the crap.

Little did I know that by trying to be honorable, giving her a chance to get away from the drama, I was in fact opening her up to a whole new load of crap. People that know us, have been making comments about her "running around with other guys". They believe that she MUST BE sleeping with these guy friends of hers. I believe her when she tells me that she is not. Not that it would matter. After all, it was I, who gave her the freedom to do so.

Anyway......she left last night. Opportunity presented itself, and I pushed her to take it. So now here I am, just waiting for the day to end, so that I can do the same tomorrow.

Funny, I think....that everyone was so worried about MY happiness. And yet, their comments, and actions only resulted in eliminating happiness from my life.

Sorry to make this about me. Just letting you know that you are not alone in your misery.

To answer your questions.....Yes, hold onto hope. That is the only thing that keeps ME going. NO, DO NOT COLLECT CATS! Cats are foul creatures. All they do is eat and crap. And they are only good for cuddling if it suits them.

Man stabbed in back in North Lawrence

The way I hear it....the "victim" and his numerous friends had this so called "male friend" down on the ground, working him over, and the "victim" was the one with the knife. Is that how you guys "roll" on the north side?

Temporary relief

Good Job City Commission! Yall musta really put the scare into Dennis, forcing him into submission. But don't think we can stop there. We still got undesirables at the Replay, and Granada. Whaddaya think? Who should we go for next? Let's get that dang Replay outta downtown too. I hear there's some drug activity up in there. Better get the LPD to stake it out. (and do nothing about it)

Latest incident provides city ammunition in forcing closure of 'public nuisance'

OldEnuf2BYurDad (Anonymous) says:

If I understand your comment, my answer is YES, my agenda is to keep MY kids safe and if the problem moves to another community (say, Topeka), then it's on them to decide if they want to take action. Are you saying that we should not seek to get rid of the rats because someone else may (or may not) get them? I want the rats gone, without a lot of concern about where they are going from here.

We will always have riff-raff. The only question is whether or not we want to be tolerant of them. The riff-raff will likely keep moving about until they find people who will tolerate them.

If we don't "move" the riff-raff, then we will get Last Call copies springing up all over town. We either send the message that we don't want that here, or we are - by default - sending the message that we want more of the same.

What I'm saying is, "STOP passing the buck....we have PLENTY of police in Lawrence, and a fabulous new jail. (which i doubt has EVER been filled to capacity) We need to take advantage of BOTH, and get the trash off the streets! Not just shoo em off of OUR block!

Two Last Call employees, one teen shot

If the LPD is sittin outside LC when they are open.........I don't see how ANY chaos should arise. If LC's patrons are being escorted OUT of the club, it is obviously because they have ALREADY broken the laws of Lawrence. (Assault, Battery, Harassment) Why are the "trouble-makers" not taken into custody immediately, before the problem escalates? I'm sure you have all heard of "citizen's arrest"??? Where is Mil-Spec??? Are they still providing security for Dennis???
If these patrons are "thrown out" merely for being drunk and obnoxious, I would remind the LPD that PUBLIC INTOXICATION is also a violation of the law in Lawrence. Let's use that wonderful new jail of ours to it's highest potential! Let the gangbangers pay for it!

Another downtown shooting

If your house is overrun by rats, do you just lock it up tight and move away? I don't think so! You set traps to eliminate the vermin! Dennis and the city are obviously in the middle of a "cock-fight". So what?!? Close down last call, maybe that will eliminate the problem? Are you people really that ignorant?!? That doesn't eliminate anything. It just moves the problem from one place to another. At least OUR kids are safe then, huh? But someone else's child is killed instead. Can you live with that?!?
When the rednecks were flying their rebel flags downtown there was a tremendous increase of police patrolling the downtown streets on foot. Obviously they foresaw the problems that could arise from the flying of "colors". Eventually, the flag flying DID bring an increase in traffic from KC. Fortunately, it did not result in any deaths, to my knowledge.
last call presents an opportunity for the city to eliminate the problem of these "gang-bangers". The city needs to step up the police presence around last call. Bring out the dogs! You don't need to stop every car that comes down the highway! The problem needs to be eliminated right HERE, right NOW!
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find a parking space at the courthouse? All those cruisers parked? If you just need a parking space:..park the dang things in front of last call!

Raise just wrong

You alllllllllllll need to relax. Perhaps our wonderful commissioners DESERVE this pay increase. Or maybe they just need a little extra cash to pay their divorce settlements.

28-year-old's body found in rural Douglas County

To the family and friends, my condolensces.

Fact is, this man, however good he may have been, was not perfect. Nor, or any of us. Judge not lest ye be judged.
To put it bluntly.....he got his. As will the person/persons responsible for his death. As will we all.
