Plans in works to mark raid on Lawrence
"To remind our children the price to be paid for core beliefs."
People weren't killed in the raid for their beliefs. They weren't fighting for anything, just in the wrong place at the wrong time, victims of the violence of an invading military force.

Kansas House chamber set to host Christian workshop
I usually vote Democrat but I'd vote Libertarian over Republican or Democrat any day. Pragmatic Libertarianism is fiscal conservativism--not spending what you don't have--and social liberalism--individual liberty (i.e. gay marriage, abortion access).

Kansas House chamber set to host Christian workshop
Just so we know what kind of a group we have using our state buildings and accessing our elected representatives, here's the stated purpose of this group:
Capitol Commission puts a full-time pastor in the Capitol. Our goal is three-fold:
1). We evangelize our leaders (Colossians 4:5-6). The Scriptures tell us to be wise in our interactions, being gracious, sensible and ready with the right answer.
2). We help them become established in the faith, discipling them (Matthew 28: 18-20). Jesus gives this command based on His authority in heaven and earth.
3). And we equip these leaders to live as salt and light in a very high profile environment.
I have no objection to this meeting as long as a.) ALL groups are allowed access the same space at the same cost, b.) this meeting allows no special access to elected officials and c.) the meeting is in no way endorsed by a state employee or agency.

New Salvation Army leaders have big to-do list
Non-religious charities: Goodwill, Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Rotary, Oxfam just to name a few. And since the SA is a religious organization it's exampted from the Form 990, which Charity Navigator uses to evaluate the efficiency of charities.

New Salvation Army leaders have big to-do list
"...and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ"
Which is why you never get any donations from me. There are plenty of organizations providing services to the community that have no religious agenda and that don't have policies that descriminate against homosexuals.

Police complaint case summaries provide scant detail
And who would be on that board? The spots would be appointed by big wigs to be occupied by big wigs who would then trade their influence for special treatment by law enforcement.

City vows fairness on new council for economic development
Yeah, get community leaders involved in the economic development committee. Do so and the social workers will spend 90% of the time on group hugs & airing of perceived grievances and 10% of the time on how to invest money in fiscally unsound money pits.

City votes in favor of banning camping trailers, large vehicles from spots near South Park
If you think Lawrence is conservative, even in light of the passing of this law, you really need some perspective. I'm not for sanitizing downtown Lawrence a la Johnson County, but it's not the characters that make downtown, it's the businesses. And there's plenty of competition out there. When the paying customers who don't want to be haggled for spare change or inhale the lovely primitive odors of the hobos choose to spend their money somewhere else those businesses go away too.
