City of Lawrence begins using new automated trash truck

With the existing system the trash trucks move a lot slower down the street and therefore spend more time on the street while trash is being picked up on both sides of the street. With the new system you'll see the truck pick up trash on one side of the street throughout a whole neighborhood and then go back through and pick up the opposite side of the street so there is no backing up and turning around at the end of the street (wasted motion.) I know in some areas of Wichita you used to be able to pick from half a dozen different trash companies which meant up to half a dozen trash trucks driving down your street each week so if one trash truck makes only two trips down the street I'd say it's a bonus...

In Wichita Waste Connections will pick up two or three extra items but if there is more than that, there is an up-charge. We do curbside recycling so we rarely fill up our trash cart so extra items have never been a problem...

The young man that is suing definitely does have some blame in this but it's a well known fact that this local SigEp fraternity (and others) DOES provide alcohol to minors on a regular basis so they do have some culpability as well....
