Once snow melts, potholes expected to be less prevalent than years past

Yeah, I don't buy this story at all.

"Trust us! The potholes WILL be better next year!!"

There are already a line of giant potholes on 6th in front of Hy-Vee (that I don't remember being there before the arctic blast). With this kind of weather, not to mention the salting and scraping of the roads I think we'll just be lucky if the streets are only as bad as they were last year.

One person taken by helicopter, two others by ground ambulance after rollover accident on SLT

Drove by the accident probably minutes after it happened I was headed towards K-10 and the accident was headed towards Wakarusa. I couldn't see much of the SUV that had rolled over (just the top of the roof) but on my side of the median there was a young boy, probably late teens or early 20s, that looked like he had been thrown from the vehicle. He was obviously thrown a great distance because he was almost on the road on my side and the car was on the other side of a fence. Luckily, it seems a nurse (at least someone in scrubs) had pulled over and she and another pedestrian were trying to keep the boy calm since the ambulances had yet to arrive. I didn't see the other two accident victims. The young man that I saw looked to be in pain but was moving around. I hope everyone turns out to be OK, it seemed to be a pretty severe wreck.

Sebelius' budget plan would slash millions from higher education

In response to "yourworstnightmare". As an alum from the Emporia State and a current KU grad student - your suggestion of shutting down Pittsburg and ESU is frightening. I completely agree with "BikerGrandma" about the amount of personal attention when compared to KU. But your suggestion doesn't even take in to account the city of Emporia. Emporia is struggling and after the loss of so many jobs from the Tyson plant closing - I fear that shutting down ESU would damage Emporia economy beyond repair. The college, the students and the money that they bring in is vital to the town!

Police investigate reported rape

Why isn't this article on the front page??? - This is a serious matter of safety and I have to learn about it from the UDK? This is a problem that concerns everybody in Lawrence not just KU - Come on LJW!
