Town Talk: Newest multi-story building plan proposes roundabout for Ninth and New Hampshire; city urging residents to get trash cart requests in before Monday; weekly land transfers

this question has not been answered:

currently I mow my grass and put in a trash can, which the city picks up monday mornings
they pickup my trash on thursday (different trash can, obviously)

if we are allowed only one trash can, what do we do with the lawn clippings? can we continue to put them in a separate trash can and have them picked up on mondays as usual?

or will the 'new' trucks designed to only pickup the new trashcans not facilitate this?

Man pistol-whipped in attempted robbery at The Reserve apartments; two suspects in custody

when o when will we start charging shawnee county for the money spent on our law enforcement chasing topeka's criminals? solution is easy...toll booth on hwy 40, and secondary toll booths at the turnpike entrances. any one from shawnee county must pay a $5 cover charge to enter douglas county. sounds good to me.

Rec center will add $6M to economy, report says

it seems clear that the majority of posters do not want this rec center, or at least the community is not in favor of the means by which it is coming together. only the city commission and fritzels seem in favor, with KU's tacit approval. so land is donated, but the city has to buy it back? that is not a donation, that is a loan. sounds like once it is in operation, KU will have large areas restricted to themselves...dont they have plenty of land on their west campus? and finally, the $6 million "boost" to the local economy....whoa! trickle down economics all over again! no one from a track and field tournament is going to be spending any money here, except for gas hotel and maybe mcdonalds. these tourneys bring in BUS loads of kids, not by car. they will be hangin out west of lawrence and any notion of them visiting downtown is a pipedream. imagine a tour bus trying to parallel park on mass! c'mon chad, give ' em both barrels. library, police center, new rec center that citizens can't
use but we pay for it.....how much is enough? city commission, are you listening?

All in favor? New group making voice heard at City Hall

“We have kept hearing from people outside of this community that there is a pretty negative perception about how hard it is to do business here,” said Gary Rexroad

translation: Lawrence has really strict codes and actually enforces many of them to prevent the city from turning into another Topeka or Johnson County.... that makes it more expensive and less profitable than other towns. why do so many people in this town care about what it looks like? why can't we just level this place and build mcdonald's on every corner? A bank or two on every corner? a burrito hut on every street? forget schools, they are expensive and unnecessary, more churches too, they pay ZERO taxes and really help us. donate the parks to the builders, they can put up new 5 story apartment complexes- oh, think of the job growth (temporary-but who cares?) go buy iphone, connect yourself to worldwide web-you need instant info and gps for taco-hut lunch directions. ring ring chime makes faces smile everywhere, twitter me now, I need to know exactly what you are doing-right now. why doesn't toilet paper come with instructions? oh-wait a minute, i already figured it out. go buy a big mac and wolf that baby down.

All in favor? New group making voice heard at City Hall

“Several of us have been asking ourselves for a while what has happened to the part of the population that does not have a vested interest in a project but still thinks it is a good project for the community?” said Bolick, who is an assistant vice president for Douglas County Bank.

excellent journalism.
I appreciate it.

An assistant vice president for a Bank that doesn't have a vested interest?
yeah, right. no vested interest, just money.

I also experienced the roaches at Biggs.... too bad, I liked the food,, but when I saw two large roaches chasing each other on the other side of the table, I informed the waitress to cancel my order, and she actually said, " ya, we see those here sometimes..."
I took the kids and hit the road!
