Seabury boys lose ‘dogfight’ in Georgi Funtarov’s Seahawks debut

I do love Buffalomeat's game, but Pritchard should play at a higher level in college.
Once again - I don't hve a dog in the fight, but AAU coach or not, his team looked like the best coached team in Lawrence to me though. I was impressed with how they guarded and how they got good looks at the basket. There was a reason St James went to a junk defense.

I don't have a dog in the fight, and I can tell you that the hype is well deserved. I was at the Seabury vs St James game and I've seen Freestate and LHS this year.
Despite their record, St James has some talent and is good. St James' losses are to some of the better teams in the area (Miege, Ottawa, Sumner, & Hogan Prep (Hayden is good too). The McCullough kid is also very hard to guard because he just puts his head down and goes.
You could tell Seabury was trying to learn how to play together without Diaz and with Funtarov, but it was pretty clear that when Diaz is back they will be one of the most talented teams in Kansas. I talked to a Seabury coach after the game and he said they just weren't ready for the junk defense that was thrown at them.
Right now, I would say FS & LHS play better together because they've been playing together for longer. But I think Seabury has the three best players in the city (with Buffalomeat and Pritchard close behind). Personally - if there is a choice to watch a game between BSA, FS or LHS - I will pick BSA every time this year.

Free State boys fall behind early, lose 61-49

FS basketball is a mess. FS is the third best High School team in the city.
The best players that should be at FS are at Seabury and LHS. There are 2 kids over 6-5 playing at Seabury that transferred from FS (not to mention Lane at 6-4). The player from Europe had to transfer because of a federal law - but the other kid was cut by Law as a Sophomore despite having a 6-7 brother that was good enough to get a Division II scholarship despite being misused by Law. Combine that with the fact that some other players with size quit because Law doesn't know how to post players and I don't think you can't use lack of size as an excuse.
Bottom line - I think change at FS would be good. I think Law only knows how to coach one way and that doesn't cut it in a town like Lawrence with two other options.

Fight to the finish: Lions hold off Firebirds in OT to snap four-game rivalry skid

Free State may only have 3 more wins on their schedule.

Firebird Kennedy Kirkpatrick commits to UWGB

The first time I saw this girl play was @ LHS when she was a Freshman.
It was a very tough game - but I vividly remember the thing that stood out even more than how well she could play the game or shoot the ball --- she just seemed to have so much fun playing the game.
Congrats!!!

Free State boys fall to BVN, 75-49

Bishop Seabury Academy has got some serious talent and they are beating big schools without the FS transfer, who is probably the top player on the team. Might compete for state championship in any class in Kansas?

BVN is either the #1 or #2 team in the state IMO. They will beat most of their opponents like a drum this year. That said - few kids like playing for Coach Law. Kids are going to LHS & BSA to avoid wasting their High School playing days. As far as politics go, Law didn't even play his best player the minutes he deserved last year after he found out he would have to transfer to another school because of a federal "law". Also, for the second year in a row, the best freshman in the city has lived in the FS area, but chose to go to BSA & LHS respectively to avoid Law. The good news is - the other two schools in the area have good momentum going in the state.

Lions win tourney debut

I doubt FS can beat LHS this year.
More talent at LHS on the court and bench.

Lions win tourney debut

This is a big time win for LHS. Sumner Academy is a big time team in this area.
Looks like LHS & Seabury have it rolling right now.
