Simons' Saturday Column: Lawrence has lost growth, economic momentum
I agree with Dolph's editorial.
The way I see Lawrence is that it enjoyed "the good life" for many years...eating and eating and growing more obese with every bite. Now it's unhealthy and needs to diet some to get back within "normal" weight and it just can't stick to a diet. The end result will be it's own massive heart attack! And that heart attck may be fatal or at least need many long hard years of rehab.

Simons' Saturday Column: Menards again reveals city’s stunted retail thinking
I agree with Dolph on this also! This City is loosing it's appeal to many folks and businesses to boot. Wake up Lawrence! I stayed because it was a nice town...35 years ago. Not so much any more.

Finding meaningful employment a challenge for those with developmental disabilities
Just to add a little something here...Lawrence's job opportunities are so limited. I agree with lawrenceloser 100%. Great, uplifting story though.

City Commission to consider giving Lawrence's city manager $10,000 raise
When I worked for the city...the raise standards were only 2.5% or 5% depending on "who" you were. Why so much and for what? More bunk from the city commissioners!

What is important to you in a church service?
The church service is (imo) not what's really important. I "get " out of it, what I put into it. The service itself is a way to give God His due glory. It really is ALL about Him.

City of Lawrence to consider rate increases for water and sewer bills
More politics from city hall. Gotta think that if you are a "SOMEBODY" in Lawrence, your clothing is lined with dollar bills...

Lawrence schools now out of snow days
Not sure I "get" this. What is so hard about making up a day or two of school when "safety" issues are the reason for a closure?

Sound Off: Reporting tax fraud
Social Security is classified as an entitlement but I worked and paid into the system for many long years. I DO have a problem with social security being paid to persons that have NOT contributed a dime ... ie: a woman collecting ss ,who's husband worked but she DID NOT. Basically, No tickey...NO laundry.

Leader of local food bank files for seat on Lawrence City Commission
Mr. Farmer...I do not know you at all but from what I see here...you seem like a down to earth, good ol' boy that just has high standards and a real grasp on just what "commuinity" means. City Hall needs someone like you to point their noses in the right directions. I suspect, should you get elected that you will face battles because you will probably go against the grain of their current non thinking ways. I wish you all the best. Bigger, better more is not always the way to go. Working with what you have and maximizing it's potential is smart. Good luck to you sir.
