Lawrence homeless shelter to host open house at soon-to-be-home on Sunday
My guess is a local downtown church will step up once this need is realized.

Lawrence homeless shelter to host open house at soon-to-be-home on Sunday
I love how the new homeless shelter is right next to the Douglas County jail on the way out of town. They are pushing the homeless in the wrong direction, though. Johnson County won't have them; Topeka will, though.

Casino message
I may be out of touch with most of the casino-going crowd, but I'd like to think that most people go to a casino and gamble as a form of entertainment. Now, there are games of skill such as blackjack and poker, where people actually do make enough money playing the house and "amateurs".

Safer K-10
What about viable forms of public transportation between Lawrence, Johnson County, and Kansas City, especially at night. The K-10 Connector is great if you are going between KU and JCCC during the day time. But to get to downtown Lawrence or anywhere else in Johnson County or even between JC/Lawrence after 10 o'clock at night, you still need a car.
Austin Texas has a series of bus routes called the "Night Owl", which leave the downtown bar district at 12:10, 1:10, 2:10, and 3:10. Lawrence should try a similar model, leaving at 2:15 from 9th and Mass. I'd target these areas - Topeka, Westport/Brookside, JC-Lenexa/Olathe.
This may not stop the idiot drivers from still driving under the influence, but for people looking to have a good safte time and spend their money in Lawrence, this would be a great option.

Trash service
Why don't we just have a town dump and require everyone to drive their trash there on their way out of town to their jobs in Johnson County or Topeka?
