County commission to hold special meeting to discuss fireworks ban

So I guess this means I can shoot fireworks off at my house in the country regardless of tomorrows decision. Now what about if a burn ban is called?

Sound Off: What kind of herbicides and chemicals does the city use in the parks and other areas? And

Why do they use them... Really? Stay in your own weed infested (East Lawrence?) yard if you are that concerned.

Children’s excitement, passion are longtime teacher’s muse

Taught me how to speak Spanish, 1-10. You wouldn't believe how that helped later in school learning the rest of that language. Place is cleaner than a hospital. Many of Lawrence's best started out here.

City eyes improvements to Ninth Street intersections

$135,000 for another signal head? The light is red yellow or green regardless of how many "signal heads". People, are you that stupid now days?

Sound Off: Why haven’t the utility flags been removed between 23rd and 25th streets on Kasold now th

Wasn't aware that locates were necessary for road striping. Guess I learn something new every day.

Sound Off: Why do some traffic lights have longer yellows than others?

I think the answer to this question is fairly obvious, however I do have one complaint on this issue. The light at the bypass and Wakarusa is flat out dangerous. A longer yellow would help, however keep in mind there are large trucks traveling at 65mph going through this intersection. I know from experience driving (legal) loaded trucks through here that the margin is thin and easily misjudged. If one's trailer brakes decide not to work, they are going to plow right through. Stop lights on 55mph+ roads are not safe.

Traffic-calming devices for Crescent Road mulled

I love going 30 over the "traffic calming devices" on Harvard, especially when the whiny residents are out to see. I am not speeding, however going over those bumps at 30mph makes it look like you're going 50 and being reckless as hell.

Town Talk: UPDATE: Old Navy confirms it will close Lawrence store; city says pothole numbers way down; $900,000 project to add turn lane at Sixth and Iowa

How about some sort of dividers on westbound 6th lanes and make south lane left turn only and allow North lane to flow constantly. There is really no reason that lane should have to stop aside from people turning left off Iowa and immediately going into North lane (which is illegal) and dividers of some sort would fix that problem. I've thought about this solution for years.

How often do you water your lawn in the summer?

Enough to keep a nice lush lawn. I fertilize often as well. It helps to keep the air clean and neighborhood cool.
