British knight, KU alumnus extols importance of Magna Carta at Dole Institute talk
Hope he leaves town before the bloggers on here lynch him. Understanding that the founders intended for the church to be free of government intervention, and not the reverse, is dangerous talk while vacationing on this isle of blue located in a sea of red. Run Forrest run!

Prayer in public meetings common in Kansas
...it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official act my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that His benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the people of the United States a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes, and may enable every instrument employed in its administration to execute with success the functions allotted to his charge.

Statehouse Live: Secretary says no formal investigation under way from feds on social service waiting lists
If one is on a waiting list for something, it seems personal responsibility would cause one to take ownership to keep the holder of the list up to date on changes in personal information (address, telephone number, etc.). Most telephone number changes these days are not due to being homeless, they are due to dropping land lines and changing to cellular phone numbers.
When the call comes in for one's turn to get free services, and one fails to answer the call, how can one blame the caller for a problem caused by one's lack of responsiveness?
Has KDADS been in charge of MR/DD forever, or just since July? If just since July, isn't the past agency more at fault than Secretary Sullivan's organiztion, who is now left to pick up the pieces?
Does anyone really believe that the Governor has time to think to himself, "let's save money by denying benefits to MR/DD residents who legitimately need help?"
I think well-founded criticism is appropriate. The posters here (and the ever-factually challenged reporter) are being radical in the criticism. Further, does anyone know such a family truly waiting for services, and has that family contacted KDADS now that the effort is being made to help them, and what was the result? Sullivan strikes me as someone who would work to right a wrong, hence the effort to call everyone on the waiting list after taking over an area that was mismanaged.
Just some random thoughts.

Statehouse Live: Jenkins says some are happy to stay unemployed to collect benefits
Bozo, so many uninformed comments in this one thread. Employees do not pay for unemployment insurance. The unemployed will be the first to tell you they choose unemployment benefits over taking a lower paying job. The lion's share of employers are small businesses, and those employers are not wealthy, so a cut in the rate would not be a benefit to the 5%ers, as the tax itself is regressive. Finally, if you do your homework, you will find that you can be employed and still get unemployment benefits due to the system being broken. This is not a conservative/liberal issue, it is a waste of taxpayer money and an example of broken government systems that every taxpayer should be concerned about.

Fantastic future? KU football coach Turner Gill ecstatic with No. 34 recruiting class in country
Liberty nailed it. Give him 4 years of recruiting his own set of players, then evaluate. Gill and Self are top notch in character, which is obviously great in light of the recent problems in athletics.

Have you ever donated something to charity?
Now that's just comedy! Oh the irony of PETA trying to pay rent to the State to post a no-fishing sign to help with the budget, and then having the State announce the next day that it is buying land for hunting purposes. That just has to make for some unhappy vegans...and during firearms hunting season for deer, no less! Makes you want to down a shot of Beefeater.

Faith Forum: How should Thanksgiving be discussed in a religious context?
No, you continue to spread lies and deception about science. You cannot acknowledge that there are loads of present day scientists that think Darwin is an embarrassment to science. You don't hold the intellectual high ground.
