Sound Off: I live on a private road (owned by a HOA). We have a problem with through traffic speedin

Private streets are typically streets that are built and maintained solely by the property owner(s), on their own property, with no funds from the city.

Do you usually vote along party lines or mix it up when you vote?

I remember him! I'm a bit disappointed he didn't decide to run again this year.

First Bell: Returning to Lawrence

Good luck with the school funding lawsuit. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled on March 24, 1997 that Ohio's way of funding schools (relying primarily on property taxes) was unconstitutional. 15 1/2 years later, we are still waiting for a new plan to be enacted.

What is your favorite annual Lawrence event?

I think Kent misheard the question. I've actually been to Banff, and, while I was there, I was in Canada.

City rethinks retail zoning

If we were living in a democracy, what you are saying would be true. However, because the United States of America is a constitutional republic, what you are describing is exactly how it is supposed to work. We vote for people to work in the best interest of their constituents. Does it always work? Absolutely not, but this country was not set up to have the entire population vote on every item that arises. If you don't like what is going on, vote for different candidates, and hope enough people do as well.

Police officer testifies family believed two children, ages 5 and 7, possessed by demons

How did you learn to cook?

I'm surprised a good chunk of the day has gone by without a "To Serve Man" reference.

Heard on the Hill: KU Chick-Fil-A debate reaches Congress; local IIYM piano winner continues to excel; math prof takes on new administrative role

I'm guessing that, because the location in the Union is a "licensed location" and not a full-fledged franchise location, their employees are employed by a third party and not directly by Chick-Fil-A, and therefore are not technically Chick-Fil-A employees.

How did you learn to cook?

It didn't take long, pushing buttons on a microwave is pretty straightforward.
