Westar Energy customer outages reach 3,445 in Douglas County
Or perhaps a swallow that was carrying a length of wire, splayed at both ends, to nest. If said swallow were to impact a relay box with said wire, in could inadvertently cause a discharge between the two opposing currents.
Lets just hope the swallow was carrying an insulated piece of the wire, else I fear it might have been smoten.

Westar Energy customer outages reach 3,445 in Douglas County
It is possible it was an African swallow. But then , they are non-migratory. Perhaps there were two European swallows carrying a coconut suspended from a line of tree bark under their dorsal guidance feathers.
If you were king you would know these things.

Authorities believe Lana-Leigh Bailey's body was moved to Osage County after killings in Ottawa
Do you remember the "good 'ol days" when hanging used to be public, and people would excitedly gather at the town square to watch? It feels more and more like our society is headed this way; pretty soon there will probably even be a reality show about it. Our blood thirst for criminals is growing disturbing.
I hope he receives justice, and am glad its not up to me to decide what that justice is.

Brownback, Gray-Little say stable state funding important to KU's efforts to improve
Continue to "improve"? Try continue to survive as a public institution. If the state continues to to pull higher Ed funding, KU will end up being a public university with no public funds to support it. KU needs to threaten to secede from being a state institution. Simply saying that a hundred or so faculty will lose their jobs won't cause any heartache to the state legislators.

Federal budget cut coming Friday could cost KU millions in research funding
The best part of this is that no one seems to know what exactly it means at KU. Does it just mean grants will have less funds to operate on? Does it mean grant-funded positions will be cut?
Anyone else tired of all the financial melodrama at the state and federal level?

Lawrence schools trained for crisis management
""If a guy with a machine gun walks into the office and starts shooting people, that isn't going to stop them," he said." Really? Do you really have to print that as the closing of the news article? How about trying to print something constructive for the parents who are worried today, and leave it at that? Last 2 paragraphs are completely unnecessary.

Up in smoke: What will state do about lost tobacco funds?
Oh great, just what our kids need. Next thing you know the government will stop taking kick backs from all the crack and meth dealers, and then where will medicare be? How can we expect to fund the state if we don't get the income from tobacco, alcohol and gambling taxes and kick backs?
Ever feel like these people are paying the state for "indulgences"?
