City to consider stricter enforcement of rental ordinance

Sooo, does that mean that the city is going to hire more than just that one person to monitor all of the rental properties in Lawrence?

City to consider stricter enforcement of rental ordinance

Most of these properties are rented sight unseen. Because they're kids and they don't know any better. But, they are old enough to sign a contract, so the slum lords just love to have them sign on the line, "quickly, or someone else will get it before you".

Building inspections more stringently enforced after 2009 medical gas case

Many requirements are not getting done. The entire Building Safety department is run inefficently. To many politics and not enough devotion to the responsibility the department has to the citizens of this town.

Immigration officials make two Lawrence arrests

$18 an hour per legal person, how much do you pay your illegal workers? Seems like I've heard they make somewhere between $3 and $5 an hour. I think there is some middle ground in there between $18 and $3.

I'll take one of those jobs!! I'd make slave wages and not be protected by any laws protecting workers, but I wouldn't have to pay any taxes. Plus, because I'd have no documents showing that I work for a living, I could get on welfare and all totaled I could make a comfortable living. I'd be bankrupting the country for my own personal gains, but that's what corporations would be doing by hiring me in the first place. I wonder how long this can go on?

Brandon Simmons, Jason Jeffries sentenced to two years probation, must repay thousands of dollars in KU ticket scandal

My Black's Law Dictionary says, "Mere silence or approval of a crime does not incur liability. 81 Mo. 483". And for it to rise to a level of accessory and action must be taken to assist or contribute to the crime in a secondary way. Or to obstruct justice by giving comfort to the criminal offender.

Again, I was unaware that not reporting a crime was illegal, no matter what the outcome of the crime is.

Eudora speeding ticket dismissed for jurisdiction violation

Isn't the speed limit for a highway in the county 55? So he wasn't speeding at all? If this isn't a city road, the city can't change the speed limit. And he wasn't doing anything wrong at all. I'm glad we have guys like this around to keep our government officials honest and within the confindes of law. And I love cops.
