Power restored to thousands of Westar Energy customers north of Sixth Street

Main reason for not having them covered is overhead lines running in and out and then to perform work they often use overhead equipment.

Power restored to thousands of Westar Energy customers north of Sixth Street

Substations are open overhead. We do have equipment in place to protect equipment from wildlife, but because of the layout and design of substations it is not possible to protect against everything. More information about wildlife outages and protection equipment. -> http://www.westarenergy.com/wcm.nsf/c...

Electric power restored to Westar customers

Westar, not West Star... We'll investigate to see if this was the cause. ;)

Electric power restored to Westar customers

Power should be restored to everyone as of 10:35 a.m.. Lightning is most likely the cause of the outage, although we haven't officially confirmed. Problem was a major line feeding the 6th street substation.

Proposed cap-and-trade legislation would mean bigger rate hikes for northern Kansas Westar customers

We would love to pursue building Wolf Creek 2. The problem with this is the cost. We know it would be at least several billion dollars, but no one knows exactly what it would cost because there hasn't been one built in over 30 years. Rather than bet on a nuke that would potentially double rates, we've chosen to invest in wind, natural gas, energy efficiency and pollution controls at our existing plants.

Snake in substation in north Lawrence causes power failure

Cause was a snake in the substation... Again. I'm not sure what the deal with these snakes is this year.

Power restored to all of Douglas County

Sorry for the delay in commenting on this...

We do have equipment in place to prevent wildlife from disrupting power, however this equipment can't prevent all outages and all kinds of wildlife.

The second outage was caused by a snake as well... What is happening, is they are getting into the equipment to try to stay warm at night. When they lay across two phases, that completes a circuit and damages equipment... As you can imagine, at such high voltage, there is not much left of the snake.
