Gov. Brownback signs Kansas drug test law for aid recipients

Umm, this is already being done. It is a policy now, and he is just re-naming it a law. so he can take some credit for it.

Mailers on Kansas tax cuts go out ahead of election

If I understand this correctly, the tax cuts go into effect in January and so will not be applied to filing tax returns until 2014 since taxes are filed for the previous year.. The rush makes no sense.

Topeka man dies after vehicle accident near KU campus

There is an article on cjonline.com in Topeka with more information. Thoughts to the family and friends, so sad.

Vehicle rolls over man in street, causing critical injuries

It really is not an intersection at all. Seventh street dead-ends there and turns at about a 90* angle onto Ash St. So if the man, who is known to have passed out before due to insulin shock, was just around the corner, the driver would not have seen him until his headlights turned with the car. It could be other factors but it will come out in time. No need to guess at this point, and hoping for a complete recovery.

What is a meal or a food that you think captures the essence of summer and why?

Watermelon. It takes until summer to be ripe and then the juice is great on a hot day.

If they need to move people, why would they move violent offenders to a less secure facility?

Evidence found that may solve 1985 case

Please fix the errors and repeated paragraphs in this story. It really takes away from the importance of the facts.

City, County would pay to keep open state SRS office under proposal announced Monday

I agree with you. This is a solution that needs to be put in place until the rest of the story plays out,. The other issues will be addressed, but without this offer, it might be too late to keep this office from closing. I never saw a completed list of the expected costs to the local non-profits. There were over 20, and the need to hire new caseworkers to handle the increased caseloads and the cost of transportation for many of them, the totals on the first 8 were already over $150.000 per year. The article says there will be no mill levy increase. But you can bet there would be one if the office closes and the local agencies have to pick up the costs of over 10,000 clients. Short-term, this will stop the closing while the other issues are worked out. I am proud of them too.

Local officials, representatives hope to prevent closure of Lawrence SRS office

We don't need this Siedlecki plan here in Kansas that failed in Florida. Go to Google and check it out. Access Florida. There are numerous reports of the problems they are trying to force on Kansas now. Some of he reports are over 100 pages long. Who asked the tax paying citizens of Kansas if they want this ridiculous system that merely saves money because it is on-line,
gets rid of all Social services, and replaces them with "State of Kansas On-line services".
