Evacuation lifted for homes near Langston Hughes school in west Lawrence after large grass fire
erock
I know they are saying it is a squirrel that did this, but why would you want to limit people's right to use common sense and reason to speculate to what caused this. It was a day after the fourth, people shoot off fireworks after the fourth, it seemed to start near the 15th and K10 area so maybe someone did toss a cig out of their car and it hit the grass.
Normally I am not about the conspiracy theory guys throwing out their internet blog spot supported ideas (although very entertaining and seemingly a first amendment protected right), but those stating it could have been fireworks or cigs seem logical and not really a rush to judgement. It sounds more like sour grapes because someone else got to stay in their house and you didn't

Federal officers make drug arrests in Douglas, Johnson counties; eight suspects are from Lawrence
If there weren't laws in place you would see reenactments of scenes pillaging and carnage from all the barbarian, post apocalyptic and zombie movies going on daily everywhere and you would have to be constantly looking over your shoulder waiting for the next attack on your abode by anyone not the cops who were looking for illegal drugs or illegal activity which were decided by the majority of people in the community some time ago. You would have to protest yourself or gather in groups to protect yourself (And my guess your weed) .
The reason why you can sit at home comfortably playing XBOX and smoke your weed without out someone taking your "natural resources for survival given to you by natural right" is the cops are out there enforcing laws most of the people decided on not a few people. So sorry you are out of luck. May be you should hope for world events like in Mad Max, Road Warrior or Conan to occur so you can live like a "Free Man"

THe rights you include are against unreasonable search and seizure right. This was a REASONABLE SEARCH AND SEIZURE. From what most here say this thing needed to be stopped so I guess if you have a jury of 12 peers this was reasonable seizure

Do these guys some non-violent. From 2004:
The investigation culminated Friday, when police stopped both men in traffic, arrested them, and served search warrants for their homes, Cobb said. Cobb said police watched the men and waited for them to leave their homes before arresting them because officers suspected they were armed.
Roosevelt Dahda's arrest happened about 1:10 p.m. Friday after a traffic stop near Clinton Parkway and Atchison Avenue. In a search of his home that began about 1:50 p.m., police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun, a bag of shotgun shells, scales with white residue and other items, according to the court affidavit.
Christa Graham, who lives on Willow Cove, said she was outside Friday when she saw a van pull up slowly. She said 10 to 15 officers came out dressed in black, carrying shields and shouting.
"It was really frightening," she said. "It was just like what you see on TV."
When officers stopped Los Dahda about 6 p.m. near 16th and Iowa streets, he got out of the car holding a sawed-off shotgun at his side, Cobb said. Officers had to use physical force to subdue him and take the gun from him, Cobb said.
Inside a closet in Dahda's home in the 900 block of Jana Drive, officers found bags of white powder, baggies of suspected marijuana packaged for sale, a .380-caliber handgun, a .45-caliber handgun and other items, according to the affidavit.

I will repost this 2004 article segment to illustrate why the cops did what they did with these guys. I don't think it had to do with being bored. My guess is they wanted to get these guys with more pounds to make sure they got the time they deserved

tbaker
great institute your system but give me the option not to pay for the health care (through taxes etc) related to all the health problems related to these drugs which everyone here says are so harmless. Give me a form to sign that opts me out soe I can be "Free" to spend my money on what I want to spend it on...not on health care for those who want to wreck themselves.

If the numbers are right these people would not fall in the 99% so maybe the IRS should get involved and try to get their fair share. Looking at the previous stories about the these guys and guns there has to be more to the story
