Top shots: A look at Bill Self’s best shooting guards
While I agree his off court antics taint his image, he was still pretty good. "He might hit a three?" He was 40% in his freshmen year, which was 4th in the big 12. He was 33% in his sophomore year, when coincidentally, his minutes per game also went down. c'mon, the kid was pretty good, and looked pretty deadly in open court for the dunk... his runouts for dunks look eerily familiar to Releford, except Travis could weave in and out of players like crazy...

Lawhorn's Lawrence: The hidden survivors of Quantrill's Raid
yep, know cowley well. its on the oklahoma border. winfield is about 15 miles north of the border. ark city pretty much borders it.
if you are more interested in kansas history and relatives, try doing some searches on kshs.com or kansasmemory.org. .
cato's history sounds interesting... being close to missouri, they certainly saw their fair share...even down in the southern part of the state.

J.R. could hit the three. I tend to forget about him because he transferred, but he was such an athletic player. He could run the floor and dunk and hit the three. back when Jock's Nitch sold those # shirts, I had a 15 for Givens. I thought I would have to retire it when he left, but then another 15 came and took his place......

That's the argument. Bleeding Kansas was the start of the Civil War.

Lawhorn's Lawrence: The hidden survivors of Quantrill's Raid
Some Native American tribes were more prevalent to slave holding. There were slave holding native Americans in Kansas, since George Clarke was the Indian agent and he was pro slavery. There were slave holding Indians on the trail of Tears, that even their money and status couldn't keep them from having to give up their land and houses. They had "assimilated" and yet were forced to give up everything.
Native American tribes in Florida, assimiliated escaped slaves, and other tribes incorporated their slaves into their families. but there were a few tribes that treated their slaves as did the whites. There are some books about native american slave holders and some websites. Yes, I believe the Natives Americans in Okahoma were confederate. That didn't help their cause after the war.

I read of very few, but my personal favorite is the Hutchinson grandma who cold cocked an intruder/attacker with a frying pan.

you can't compare john brown to quantrill...apples and oranges.
john brown did lead the pottawatomie massacre, killing 5 proslavery who may have threatened his family and other free staters (that is still being debated)...he raided missouri slave holders and freed slaves.... he plundered in Kansas, along with the territorial militia, free state parties, law and order parties, georgians, south carolinans, etc.
And John Brown was executed for his part in Harper's Ferry raid, in December, 1859. Quantrill raided and killed in August, 1863.
John Brown was against slavery.. period... Quantrill murdered 150 men and boys for REVENGE.
the two aren't even comparable.
