Fred Phelps Sr., founder of Westboro Baptist Church, dead at 84

I wonder if his son Nate, and the others who defected from the Phelps family are not feeling a sense of their chains being broken right about now.

Well well. The first two commenters have some very, very good points. So does Zach. But...it is really hard for me not to get a kick out of this. I've done some really disgusting stuff in my lifetime, but this guy.....There was nothing "Christian" about what he preached.

Father of slain toddler grieves in Missouri jail

aEnough of coddling and feeling sorry for persons who choose drugs over their children. Enough !! And yes, there is drug and alcohol addiction in my family. This does not change my mind.

Woman killed after falling out of party bus

Senseless and tragic. I guess the only safe way to drink and/or party is to stay put in one's home.

When It's Time To Say Goodbye

My heart goes out to you and your family, Ron. I will not even attempt to judge your brother's or Mr. Young's decision, because it's not me.

If it ever gets scheduled, I'm facing a surgery that has a 12% mortality rate, between the surgery itself and the possible complications afterward. I am scared silly. I have already decided to designate a close friend outside my family to act as my power of attorney. No one in my family would be able to agree on carrying out my wishes, no matter how clear they were set out.

I am going to have my advance directive state that during and immediately after the surgery, if I code, they damn well better do everything to try and get me back. But...if I should suffer a massive stroke or cut loose a pulmonary embolism, and my EEG is flat, please, let me go. I mean, do the code, but if after that I am brain dead, or have no hope of ever breathing on my own again, if they think about keeping me chained to a vent forever, I will haunt them, and it won't be pretty.

Double Take: Online beau may not be as he appears

My dear young lady, for your safety and emotional health, stop this thing with the online guy. Then, stop and evaluate the relationship you are in, and take time to determine why you want to break it off.
It is completely classless for either gender to start another relationship without fully ending the previous one.

Health care providers oppose Republican resolution to not expand Medicaid

Okay skinny, let's have a chat, shall we? I for one had planned on working until I was 65 or 67. Well guess what-crap one could never have imagined often happens. For me, it means I am a non-smoker who has the very rare distinction of developing lung cancer. I will soon be having one lung removed, and yes, there are many people alive on one lung, but not working with full strength.
When I read comments such as yours, there are words I want to use that would get this post deleted fast.. So you pulled off an economically admirable thing-good for you. Can you not concede it does not work that way for everyone?
I am extremely grateful for Medicaid, and for the SSDI I will soon be receiving. Yes, grateful. If, as you say, my "neighbors" were not paying my way, there would be only one alternative-die. Let me guess, is that what you and those who think like you advocate for those of us who can no longer "pay our own way" ? You make me sicker than I already am. May you never, ever, find yourself in a position where you are on the other side of the coin. What would you do if you were hit with a medically catastrophic event, and could no longer pay those health insurance premiums out-of-pocket? Well??
