Once appon a time ( and this is not a fairy tail ) there were real corner grocery stores with their individual owners and specialized neighborhood store items, where the owners made a living off of selling food to the neighbors and were their own bosses, who are now gone ( but not forgotten ), due to the efforts and economies of the big chain grocery stores,...... that everybody is so worried about, loosing out loosing out their places, to Walmart, Target, etc., now ?

Don't look now but the day is coming when something will replace Walmart, Target, etc.. ! And somebody somewhere will miss ........the good old days !?

Where did Woolworhts,, Kressges, that became K-Mart, Sears, etc go ?

Change is the one consistent thing on this earth and Capitalism promotes that change even if what it promotes is not always humane, kind or perfect .

I think that Amyx and Coreliss had the right sense of direction for the Menard's issue to go forward .

Now if they could only get an ace hardware to move in next door to the east of the UPS Store, just south of Best Buy

Police investigate string of almost 20 auto burglaries in west Lawrence

20 auto burglaries are more than just several ( oh well ) .

Bad thing is that careless people embolden burglars to do their thing and advance their skill levels..........coming to a neighborhood near you !!!.......thanks to a great education from elsewhere in town !

Lawrence, as with many other cities, has it's share of junkies and it's people who don't lock doors, windows, cars and motorcycles,etc.up, who are enabling the junky habits of others people who are self and other destructive .

Unfortunately, the insurance rates for everyone will go up because careless folks refuse in the face of obvious publically known facts, to lock it up.

I wish that insurance companies would start to not pay claims on unlocked homes and cars and give policy holders who agree with to that deal, ......a cheaper rate !!!

Want a new mac book pro laptop ?

Just leaved your old one unlocked, in sight in your car and have a $250 deductible, on your insurance . You could save a bundle that way .

Bedbugs on the radar screen of city officials; new ordinance would allow City Hall to create rules to exterminate pests

Most of the outside yard stuff has little to do with bed bugs .

Bed bugs can leave stains on beding, etc..

Certain Dogs can be taught to snif and point them them out , although a handler could teach a dog to do a false positive hit,, with a subtle command movement, that you might not notice ,

Bedbugs have basically flat bodies so they hide well in cracks & crevasse, where they are hard to see and protected from predators .

I have heard about people putting specialized bowl like objects around their beds legs and furniture legs that trap the bugs as they try to get on or off these .

You can get bed bugs almost anywhere that you can sit down, where others have sat there before who were infested in their clothes before you sat there .

Where do you sit outside of your home ?

Planes, trains, busses, restaurants , a sports bar, the barber shop, a hotel bed or chair, the doctors office, in a cab or at a church .

It would be nice if the city simply certified bed bug treaters for their knowledge and expertise levels, so that you knew that you were getting competent service for your big bucks and that the service rendered was a reasonably effective thing at ridding your infestation, as opposed to a treatment that leads to the everlasting treatment parade, to keep the treater deliberately busy on your dime.

It would be nice if he city could weed out the bad actors, who are treating themselves to a customers wallet instead of effectively treating the bugs and stoping the bgs from spreading to others .

Yes, i wish that he were a Dem. as he'd have never got into office in the first place if he was a Dem. and I wouldn't have to be exposed to his bigoted use of his spare time, as a State Official on a frequent basis ! I think that he's an embarrassment to the State and that people look at Kansas as some strange new twisted version of Jim Crow .

Doesn't Kobach enter people's homes when he suddenly appears in the tv news to preach his brand of fear and bigotry and push his agendas ?

Don't think that any of those people entered his home ? .......but KOBACH , THE HATER PHANTOM, can always get into other peoples homes and terrorize their kids with what he advocates , with some free, helpful TV air time, on FOX .

No. The question should be was Kobachs' lawn marked with a no trespassing sign ?

Being a lawyer, I would assume that Kobach would know that one,... and that it becomes hard to prove trespassing, when your property is not posted with a no trespassing sign.
Why is he just thinking about legal actions ?

So, was there a visible no trespassing sign ? Or did Kobach appear and tell them that they were trespassing ?

Sorry, but Kobach has forced his way it the lives of millions of people, with his political brand of bigotry that plays to the lowest of human nature .

So, 300 people get in his face ? So what !? I think that he has asked for it ........and for all that I know, this might just be a made for FOX TV EVENT, to create a stir on dead issue, as immigration legislation is at hand ........Who knows ?

Let me get this straight ?!

Dillons, HVYEE and Checkers are all going out of business because Target, Walmart and Aldi are so close to each other on South Iowa ?!

Because there are so many franchise fix your car places on South Iowa including Walmart, every other fix your car place in town will just fold up and disappear ?!

Obviously, there is no way to be a car dealer anywhere else in Lawrence, but on south Iowa St so the rest of the auto dealers should just leave town ?!

Gasoline sales in Lawrence must be down and need support (with the newer efficient vehicles ) that the city commission wants to force us to drive from pillar to post, to find a fix it widget that is going to be at 31st and Iowa ( in a Menard's or a Lowe's, ) a destination where most of us go to regularly anyway as it is ?!

Sending me all over town from store to store looking for a widget just wears out my tires, my vehicle and waisted my gasoline and time .

I have a great idea of how to deal with the feared overbuilding of business space In Lawrence or the possible collapse of small retailers elsewhere due to development on South Lawrence .

Simply go and get a Menard's or a Lowes to move into the former trailer park site on 31st, and then force the South Iowa St Walmart, Target, Pennies, a car dealer or two, and lets not forget a restaurant or drive thru, etc., to pick straws at a public event, to see who folds up shop, tears down their property.... and leaves town, to help control the amount of retail space in Lawrence ! .

Well, ...OK....it's probably not such a good idea.........and it really sounds dramatic .....but it makes about as much sense, to me, as what i have read in the content of this story, concerning how development "should work". DRAMA !

"Should Work"..... and some very real money,.... might get you a cup of coffee, somewhere ! ?

While you are at it, ......kindly bring back the "corner grocery store".....and control all of their arch enemies, like Dillon's ,HyVee, Checkers, Walmart, Target, ( did i leave anybody out that you shop at, for food.? ......sorry !!!) .....who did destroy the good old corner grocery days of the past, never to return again, by luring you away as a customer, by cutting your food bill .

And what happened to those corner grocery store spaces ? Just asking ? Did anybody ever rent or use them ever again ?......and is that the end of change in this world ?
