Professor getting death threats over NRA tweet, colleagues support his free-speech rights

I wish all this outrage, opinions, comments, actions, etc. be directed at the problem of violent crimes perpetrated by guns that cause loss of innocent lives. Going on and on and on, day after day about Prof Guth's words isn't helping a damn thing! It was an opinion, get over it!

If it makes you angry do something productive towards the solution to this sad, growing problem.

Guth's tweet puts him in middle of political firestorm

He has a right to make a fool of himself; he has a right to say whatever he wants, as do us all. If I was controversially, openly verbal in the same manner I would not be on "leave" from my job; I would be shown the door and told to leave. Say what you want, live as you choose but as adults we are all aware of things such as consequences of our actions, good and bad.

HOWEVER - I don't think KU should be strong armed into action against the professor, follow policy and procedures..... Thanks for your opinions "Powerful Legislators" but this is being handled by the University of Kansas. Do us all a favor and puff out your legislative chest for matters that directly concern the people who voted for you!!!! You cannot watch/read the news and NOT think SOMETHING has to be done! NRA member/advocate or not, something has to be done to curb the epidemic of gun related violence in our country. Go to work! Get it done for all American people.....and their sons and daughters!

KU journalism professor Guth placed on leave as school reviews comment he made on Twitter on shootings

He communicated his thought of... if it had been/was your (NRA) sons or daughters would you see your way to a solution? .......very poorly. Shocking the end part because it is.....well.....SHOCKING! Who says that??? But he can say it. But there are consequences. It doesn't matter if the employer is KU or anyone else. Guaranteed I would lose my job if I made such a social comment. All Employers have code of ethics. All employers tell you that you represent them in and out of the office. No one is arguing that he CAN'T say that.......the point is by you exercising your right is followed by your employer exercising their rights. State of Kansas is an "at will" state. Hire you at will and send you packing at will. The consequences of his actions, in my humble opinion, are appropriate.

Opinion: Just asking: Is America crazy?

They either cannot afford the medications or they refuse to take them because of the dazed feeling the medications give them. They don't want to be sedated, live in a fog. I worked in the mental health field for years and most of the problems begin when they decide on their own to stop. They are on serious medication and an immediate/cold turkey stop is VERY dangerous.

City wants further review of proposed rental registration and inspection program

I live on a street of townhomes. Half are owner occupied and half rentals. You can absolutely tell by a glance which is which. My feeling/opinion is the landlord(s) make sure it’s clean and nice for renting purposes and then never look at it again until it’s time to rent again. Lawn mowing months are the worst! Protect your assets, drive by occasionally. Just because rent is paid in a timely manner doesn't mean your property, your investment, is being kept up.
