Postal officials: No layoffs planned at local post offices, despite upcoming cessation of Saturday mail delivery

There won't be as much overtime paid out. With mail delivery 6 days per week, you always have someone that is sick or on vacation, and others have to cover that route, thus OT is paid out. Less days of work per week = less of an opportunity for OT.

One man arrested, second still at large in manhunt near East 2400 Road and K-10

Yes, the school district did notify the parents about the lock-down...at 5pm- after the lock-down and after all children were sent home. Parents found out about the lock-down on Facebook.

Lawrence teachers, district at stalemate in salary negotiations

I don't necessarily agree with rewarding successful teachers because sometimes, no matter how good the teacher, a student doesn't have the learning capacity or they don't care to learn.
I do, however, think that raises should not be the same across the board. You may have a teacher that has been there for years that is just putting in time until retirement...they are just getting by on what they have to do (we know they exist), and then you have those that strive everyday to teach kids in a fun, interesting way. Should the lazy ones get the same pay increase as the one who goes the extra mile? Absolutely not.
Longevity is rewarded in schools. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're the best teachers.

Lawrence teachers, district at stalemate in salary negotiations

To my knowledge, classified staff members do not have a union in Lawrence. Therefore, they cannot negotiate terms.

Lawrence teachers, district at stalemate in salary negotiations

What always ceases to amaze me is how the teachers are always saying they are underpaid. They work 10 months out of the year and are earning what it takes most people to make in 12 months. If they're lagging behind the salaries of other districts, move to another district.
And also, without support staff such as paras, aides, custodians, food service workers, bookkeepers, secretaries... teachers couldn't fulfill their job obligations. Why is it always about teachers getting/deserving more money? What about the support staff?

Lawrence Athletic Club owner says personal bankruptcy shouldn't affect business

I agree that this couldn't have happened to a better person. Steroids kill brain cells you know. Perhaps he would be in a different situation had he not spent all of his money suing people over ridiculous no compete clauses trying to make sure that he was the only one in Lawrence to saturate the market. His former trainers are so much better off now that they are not under his thumb.

State Rep. Anthony Brown criticizes Lawrence, KU

People have gotten all defensive about Lawrence. What's the difference? And for the record, I never heard of any black man being arrested for mowing a yard in Eudora. So in truth, I'm not ignoring it.

State Rep. Anthony Brown criticizes Lawrence, KU

Seems funny to me that you say all of this, yet Lawrence is the only blue part of the state. Maybe they sent all of the loons to Lawrence and then the normal people surrounded them to keep them hidden. Funny how things work out.

He is not a public school teacher. Where do you people get your information?

That's brilliant. So you're saying you live in Eudora then?
