Lions, Firebirds volleyball fall at sub-state
Agree with the positive posts. Mags is a terrific coach and more importantly, person. She truly cares about each one of those girls and gives her all for them in and out of season. Has she done things that on any given day any one of us might not understand or agree with? Sure. That is unavoidable in team sports. I have to wonder what Homey does for a living and if he/she would like to do it in such a public forum that we could all comment on his/her performance. So, to Mags.......stand tall. Know that you have been a positive influence on these girls. Don't sweat the haters.......as the kids say "haters gonna hate" :)

Lawrence man, 18, given probation term for sexual encounter with 14-year-old girl
Perhaps I am missing something, but can someone please show me where it says the "sexual encounter" was consentual? Are you all just assuming this? It's possible he pled to a lesser charge to get probation. I certainly don't know the situation, and won't pretend to, but think many here seem to be. I will say that clearly, the authorities who did have complete information determined the 14yo WAS a victim and decided to charge him.....

One person dead following all-terrain vehicle accident in field east of Baldwin City
RealityPlease....very well said! Thank you for reminding us all of how to live. I can't agree more with your assessment of Preston. A truly wonderful boy/man. He will be missed. He died like he lived....full of energy and having fun! His family and friends will miss him tremendously. I hope they find comfort in knowing that he was loved by all who knew him!

LHS baseball falls to Shawnee Heights
Grandma;
You are certainly more than entitled to your opinion. What I would ask is that you refrain from degrading high school children who are showing loyalty to their coach and his decisions. Coach Stoll has a reputation for aggressive base running. If the decision had been successful, it would have been thought to be an excellent and aggressive decision. Since it didn't work, armchair quarterbacks such as yourself have the option to sit back after the fact and judge the decision with hindsight......easily done.
The 2011 season is young, give the boys a chance to show what they can do.....they will perform better with community support rather than criticism.

Momentum killer: Hobbled Lions beaten up in 55-21 setback to Vikings
Grandma, it is clear you will not change your opinion of Coach Wedd, so I will stop trying. However, you are takinig things out of context. I also know boys who were present for the speech given by Coach Wedd at the beginning of baseball season and he did not say what you claim he says. Plus, to imply they did not go to state because Wedd did not provide an adequate motivational speech at the beginning of the season is just ludicrous.
And yes, Lisher DOES cuss at this kids. But really, I have to say my issue is not with the language. I can cuss at a kid all day long and not say anything berating. However, I can also belittle and berate a kid to death and never use profanity. So, I personally think focusing on the F word is narrow minded.
The other issues you bring up about kids being overworked are really the resonsibility of their parents. I know parents who don't let their kids do certain workouts because they feel the are not appropriate. If parents feel their kids are in danger, they should take a stand and not let them participate in that activity. If they don't, that is on the parent. WE are responsible for our kids.
This will be my last post on this subject as it is clear we do not and will not agree. I will leave you with this: If you want to have any coaches fired, please make those statements to the appropriate people at the appropriate times. If you truly have children/grandchildren on the LHS teams,you know it does not help their morale to have this type of conflict during their season. These boys are playing their hearts out and they need community support.
