Heard on the Hill: Don't look for Chick-fil-A to leave Wescoe; KU responds to records request; CLAS hires new undergraduate services director

You paid all that money to find out that they painted and put in new carpet in the Chancellor's offices? You could have seen that for yourself. It's open to the public. In the Provost offices they put in new cubicles (the old ones were from the 1970s). No new carpet and paint. Andy, there isn't a story here. I'm glad they charged you for wasting state employee's time to dig out the receipts!

Officers may face discipline at state level

What about Mike Peck?

From the LJ-World, February 11, 2003:
Peck, 38, was put on administrative leave with pay early last month amid reports of possible misconduct. He was suspended without pay Jan. 30, six days after Douglas County District Judge Michael Malone ruled Peck supplied false and misleading information in an affidavit used to obtain a search warrant in 2001.

Guess these charges weren't severe enough to have his license revoked (?)

Camera cues

Thanks to the members of the public who voiced their concerns and the city commissioners who listened, the city will have such a policy in place.

You are welcome!

City wants policy for downtown cameras

I was one of the concerned public who gave comments. The "free money" will just become a budget item next year when the cameras have to be replaced. This is exactly what happened with the "free" money they got for in-car cameras. Now we are being asked to pay for replacements. There's nothing free.
BTW, we are also going to pay for officers to sit on at a desk watching the cameras. No one thinks about the cost of that either.

State extends period to renew vehicle tags

So if I go to Missouri or Oklahoma will they know about this extension or will I get pulled over for out of date tag?

Town Talk: Large youth Texas fieldhouse may serve as model for Lawrence project; North Lawrence river project up for key votes tonight; downtown homeless shelter sets Sept. 16 as move-out date

In other words, they’re not going to build the space and then start looking for tenants. - that's really funny when you think about the "outlet mall." A HUGE empty space on the river that right now has a handful of tenants and a hotel. I want progress but not empty space like we have now on the river.

One police officer accused of fixing traffic tickets no longer a city employee; second officer still on suspension

He committed a crime, not a lapse in judgement. Most people don't commit crimes in the course of their work. I don't care if they call it "gratuity" it's bribery plain and simple.

The investigation started last May. I think they have the facts and can release the report.
